Never About Safety? Former Red Light Camera Vendor CEO Pleads Guilty To Millions Of Dollars In Bribes
The former head of Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. — already embroiled in an alleged $2 million bribery scheme that ended the company's red light camera contract in Chicago — pleaded guilty Friday in a federal bribery probe in Ohio.

Politicians will still look the other way and say this all about "safety" so their revenue making scheme continues.

I just have some questions:

(1) With the mountain of data that we have proving that red light cameras are typically a revenue generating vehicle (i.e., they shorten yellow-light time to increase the number of red-light runners they'll catch), and the number of counties that have switched to this revenue stream, why does anyone believe they're "for safety"?

(2) Now that these folks have admitted guilt, will all those convicted by their system get a refund, their record cleared, and any consequences (e.g., higher insurance premiums) addressed? Um... why not?

I've gotten 5 tickets from that thing, all for turning right on a red light while opposing traffic had a left arrow (so there would be NO one coming my way) for not coming to a complete stop and waiting for an arbitrary amount of time.

Where's the class action lawsuit?

In theory, these cameras are a good idea (especially for catching drunk/unattentive/reckless drivers), but someone's greed f*cked it up as usual.
