Mini Leaves Boring Behind And Moves Into The Premium Sector With 6 Door Clubman

MINI continues to reshape itself and with the introduction of the new Clubman they British company is entering a new segment, a new class, a new era. Yes, the Clubman grew in size, a lot, but that was no accident.

It turns out the car was specifically developed to enter the premium compact class and take on new challenges. Therefore, you shouldn’t be surprised by the fact that it’s now this big. Compared to the 5-door hatchback version, the Clubman has 27 extra centimeters (10.6 inches) in length, is wider by 9 centimeters (3.5 inches) and has a wheelbase that is 10 centimeters (4 inches) longer.

When the new MINI first came out, it captured the character of the original (good), without taking any of the original's baggage (good again). That what Ford did when they brought back the Mustang with the strong retro look.

Today's MINI has morphed into a googly-eyed oddity, which I believe has strayed too far from its original inspiration (just as the Mustang has).

it's MINI not Mini, just like BMW is not Bmw, come on!

Wish they had kept the rear more vertical. This is what the clubman should have been all along. I test drove the original in S guise and that 3rd door squeaked and rattled during the entire test drive. Thought it was that particular car so we tried another they had in standard form and it did the same thing, Also torque steer was terrible. I look forward to seeing the reviews and maybe a test drive, although I am no longer so interested in a MINI anymore. I thought about the Countryman at one point as well...kind of nice being able to get a manual in an SUV, but decided any SUV I got had to have off road capabilities so I ruled it out in the end. Now if they make the Superleggera I will be back in their showroom.

I simply cannot get excited about this generation of Minis...they just seem so contrived and trying too hard not to make a mistake but do.

You mean a sunroof and a lighted side view mirror classify a Mini as not being boring? Really? The Mitsubishis and Kias have sunroofs and lighted side mirrors so they must be not boring and very exciting.

I never realized that is was so easy to select an exciting car. Far better than believing anything one reads on Autospies nonsense articles.
