MPG Calculator

When people are shopping for a new car I tell them that they should put fuel economy at the top of the list of "must have" features. Not many people take my advice, but it is a wake up call for some. Well, here is a great tool for finding a fuel efficient car. You can search by manufacturer, by class, by segment. i think a better explination is in order. people buy cars all the time and are pissed off because they get poor milage or "not what the sticker said" the truth is they drive like idiots, or like jeff gorden. when you see the sticker on the car at the dealership or those numbers like 18 25. you should not just take an average of the two. thats waht ppeople do and its not close to what they get. most people do not understand that 18 is the avg city milage and that 25 is the avg hwy. so you COULD get anywhere from 14-22city and 20-30 hwy. something about this confuses people and they say "thats horrible milage i get 36mpg from my v6 labarron..." okay thats good, 1: you cant do math well, 2: you drive like an old lady and you will see the top returns in your mpg and 3: you do math wrong.

i wish people understood this, as it would make my life alot easier at the dealership. i have people walk in and argue with me swearing that they get like 38 mpg from their explorer and the pacifica is just horrible.

I am waiting untill the EPA fixes the hybrid fiasco. However they might pull a fast one and inflate hybrid test numbers even higher than right now. That would be a shame.

Hi bigslick. My pet peeve is people who complain about the EPA ratings and then proceed to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The numbers are still useful in comparing cars...if you get 26 instead of the EPA-rated 30, its not like buying a car rated at 28 is going to give you better mileage!
