Ford Issues 16th Recall On Escape Models In Last Three Years
Ford Motor Co. has issued the 16th recall on the Escape crossover since its redesign three years ago.
The automaker today said it needs to fix a problem with the instrument panel on more than 200,000 Escapes and Transit Connects from the 2014 and 2015 model years.

When starting the vehicles, chimes, warning lights and messages may not work, which is a violation of federal safety standards.

Interestingly enough JD Power ranks the 2015 version as 5 stars for in most categories including quality.

Just goes to show you that you have a greater chance of getting a recall then a reliability issue these days.

Cars get recalled for everything. My company car got recalled because an idiot light might come on when it's not supposed to. The number of recalls on a vehicle means nothing these days. It's the types that matter most.

Yes, cars get recalled for everything. And EVERY one of these recalls are for safety defects. Now if the idiot light you were referring to was for brake failure then it might be serious to the average driver.

However recals are not classified as a quality issue by anyone even though they obviously are.

So while JD Power may list an inconvenient media center menu layout as a defect. (actually a design decision, not a defect) They fail to acknowledge recalls for electrical fires in the same model due to improperly designed harnesses.

The only reason is that the ratings of all vehicles would continually change over time and they aren't in the business of tracking that. (way too much work).

Basically the much touted quality benchmarks from the industry are just a farce. The reality is they are only a marketing tool.

Interesting how MDarringer owns and thus blows off 16 Ford recalls on one model yet if any other make has a recall he's quick to point out how terrible they are.

MDarringer always makes stupid, biased comments so his everlasting support for Ford & their history of shitty built, unreliable vehicles comes as no surprise.

JD Power and Consumer Reports are garbage. Most of these recalls should be correlated to quality issues, then you would see how the results of all these "best" categories change but we all know these are all marketing schemes.

Recalls are a good thing...at least in terms of showing that a manufacturer is being pro-active, rather than reactive. That said...there is a point at which they become excessive and one has to wonder what is going on in the manufacturing process. The Escape has been notorious for these recalls over the last 5 years. What is really going on here?
