STUD or DUD: Did One Of The BIGGEST Automotive Launches This Year IMPRESS or DEPRESS? Pics GALORE!
For automotive enthusiasts that are fond of the European persuasion, the Alfa Romeo launch of the all-new Giulia is a big deal. A really BIG deal. There's a couple reasons for this.

1) It's an Alfa Romeo, which is a brand that's been romanticized by just about everyone thanks to Top Gear's infatuation; and,

2) This is expected to be the car that actually brings Alfa back to the U.S. marketplace. Sure, the 8C and 4C could technically hold that claim, but the reality is that they're such limited runs that they're really inconsequential. The Giulia is a much more mainstream product relative to those two sports cars.

Alfa Romeo Giulia

Although Alfa took the sheets off the car yesterday, there isn't an overwhelming amount of details or a proper spec sheet on the all-new Giulia. The Italians do not operate like the Germans. It's an emotional sell, already.

This is what we know. The hardcore version, which is the one we're seeing, will produce 510 horsepower from a turbocharged six-cylinder motor. Zero to 60 is claimed to happen in 3.9 seconds and while the Italians haven't divulged its weight , the latest thinking is it will come in under 3,400 pounds. That's less than the four-door BMW M3, which comes in above 3,500 pounds. You can thank the use of carbon fiber and aluminum for that.

Here's where things get especially interesting though. According to the company-issued release, the vehicle will be available in both rear and all-wheel drive.

Now if the company can live up to its claims, this may be one serious hell raiser. We know it sounds good, we know the Italians dial in the steering like no one else and if it's a lightweight, the company may have this one signed, sealed and delivered.

There's just one little hang up: What do YOU make of its styling?

Is the all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia a STUD or a DUD? Did it IMPRESS or DEPRESS today?

Depress / Given how sexy Alfa Romeos can be (original Duetto Spider and GTV, more recently the Brera and 166) this simply isn't sexy, graceful, or even tasteful.

How much is this going to cost?? I think the rear spoiler color could have matched the car color. Looks like one of those after market add-ons.

I like the looks of the this Alfa. I especially love the interior. When people walk into a North American Alfa Romeo showroom they will see a 4c, 8c, and this. Not bad.

I dig it's styling, just not sure about build quality/reliability

The styling is not exceptional - but it still is better than most in its class. There are TWO things we do not know that will make a huge difference - one is price - and the other is interior size.

If the price is slightly less than a BMW 3- then it has a chance - but if it is more expensive it wont. And if the interior is as spacious as a 3 series - and not smaller like the ATS is - it has a chance. Time was - people who bought cars in these price ranges were accustomed to less reliability - and more and more expensive repairs. To be on the leading edge of technology extracted a price. However - today - people drive these as their everyday hauler - and they need enough space to make that possible - and they need enough reliability to do so as well.
