CONFIRMED: If You Were Waiting For A Bentley Continental Supersports, You Should Stop Holding Your Breath...
When I think of the Bentley Continental lineup, I have to admit that I am not a huge fan. I think they're great products but if it were my money on the line, it's just not what I'd spend it on. Just me though. Plenty of people adore it and the folks I know with one in their driveway are smiling ear-to-ear.

If I were to take the plunge though, there are only two models of interest: the V8 S and the Supersports.

Here's the thing though. The Supersports hasn't existed post refresh. So the question has been "When will we see it?"

According to a Bentley spokesperson, not any time soon. That's because the company is saying it's busy wrapping up development of the all-new Bentayga sport-utility vehicle. Hopefully the real reason why the company shelved the Supersports is that its actually working on developing the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car.

Not only is it a more dedicated vehicle with sporting credentials, it also was the bees knees at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show where it debuted. So, if you were holding your breath for a new Supersports, you should probably stop or else you'll turn blue.

..."While we're always looking at ways of extending our unique combination of luxury and performance even further, we're currently focused on delivering the all-new Bentley Bentayga SUV," spokesman Mike Sayer revealed in correspondence with Autoblog. "The Continental family has just received a suite of styling and usability upgrades for 16MY, and a future Supersports model isn't on the horizon at the moment." So while a new Continental Supersports could arrive at some point down the line, it's apparently not a priority right now...

This is a case where Bentley is simply not producing cars that are in the Small Sports sedan market you have bought into. I don't consider those little sedans to be "Luxury" cars - although you might call them "premium".

The fact is - Bentley - like Rolls Royce - have identified their desired market - and I believe it would cheapen the brands to attempt to compete in a lesser smaller arena. - They are simply not mass market car manufacturers - and to move in that direction would cheapen the BRAND.

I continue to believe that the "Luxury" moniker is being misused as well. Most of what I call "premium" brands are simply not Luxury car producers. BMW might sell more premium small sedans - but in actuality they sell very few real Luxury cars. Lexus sells more crossovers than cars - and their big car seller is the Avalon based ES. Taking Cadillac down a step from a Luxury car manufacturer to a small premium sports sedam manufacturer has proven to be a sad mistake. THe market is telling them that their cars are not filling the requirements.

The Bentley Continental would not get my money. A Lincoln Continental most decidedly will, but I digress. I have trouble liking the Bentley Continental because it's just a Mercuryized Phaeton to me. Yes they are magnificent to see and drive, but in the end they leave me cold.

VWAG manages their premium products stupidly in my opinion.

They arrange by brand Audi/Lamborghini, VW/Bentley, and Porsche, but they should arrange by platform and segment first and then interpret those architectures into brands.

They create a platform for the Lamborghini Huracan and it produces an Audi R8, but why an R8 and not a Porsche product instead--which would make MUCH more brand sense. Audi = sedan + SUV.

I contend, Bentley replacements for the Conti and the Flying Barge should have come off the Panamera chassis already. That chassis should have probably also have produced a front-engined Lamborghini coupe.

I do think VWAG has some serious thinking to do about their disjointed approach to all their brands. Marty Wintercornholio's plan to subdivide by brand is utterly stupid.

Who buys cars like this? If you want a pure sports car - there are better ones out there. If you want a pure "status" car - there are better ones out there.

This is a typical 5,800 pound Bentley two-seater with the backseat removed. It is basically a trim package. I think it is also "noise" to distract us about how old the Bentley product line has become.

Combined with the "Euro market" crash, the oil price crash, and the growing American populist movement (which is on the way to making it very uncool to be a conspicuous consumer), I'd say that Bentley is in a challenging position.

Pope Francis, who talks to god, just told us that their is overwhelming scientific evidence of man made global warming and that all Humanity is being called on to halt global warming. Now you are telling me Francis, in addition to being the Pope, is a Democrat/Fascist/Liberal Gestapo? The things I learn from uneducated white trash idiots on this website, a political website Masquerading as a car site.
