NASCAR Asks Fans To Limit Confederate Flag Displays - Is This Long Overdue Or Just A Phase?
NASCAR wants to limit the Confederate battle flag's presence at its tracks after the murder of nine black worshippers in South Carolina, but getting American race fans to comply may prove difficult.

On the eve of a big holiday race weekend in Daytona Beach, David Childress was among those who ignored the call and packed a t-shirt festooned with the Civil War-era flag for his trip to the world-famous Florida racetrack.

"I don't think you're supposed to cherish it, but don't forget it," said Childress, 61, from Mississippi, who said he owns six Confederate flags.

The confederate flag is a raised middle finger to the union of all 50 states.

The confederate flag to black Americans as the star and NAZI flag are to Jewish Holocaust survivors and their families.

It is patently immoral--though protected speach--to fly this flag.

Clearly long overdue. It's sad that this symbol of human oppression still waves proudly in parts of the country. Glad to see this is coming to an end.

Exactly, and this is good for NASCAR, hopefully they will also take a look at themselves and see how they can evolve with the rest of the country making the sport more appealing to more demographics, as I want NASCAR to be around for decades to come but they may need to do some serious community outreach

Growing up in the south, I understand the tradition or heritage that people associate it with but.... That doesn't erase the dark history that the flag represents to many others. It's fine to remember the past but there is no denying the unfortunate parts. My only beef with Amazon and other retailers pulling the flag is the lack of consistency in their other product offerings. You can still buy Nazi products but they have a disclaimer as "for theatrical purposes only". It doesn't stop there unfortunately either. If you are going to make a statement in removing symbols of hate, oppression, etc... Remove them all.
