Mid-Sized Truck Smackdown: Toyota's Tacoma Currently Outselling Chevrolet's Colorado 2.5 To 1

Toyota US higher-ups are now patting their backs thanks to a thoroughly great sales month for the Tacoma. Compared to main competitor 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, the Toyota Tacoma outsold GM’s workhorse by a whopping 2.5 to 1. It’s an unbelievable result in a mid-size truck segment limited by the chicken tax and too-few choices.

Those choices are Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, and aging Nissan Frontier. Now try to get your head around a chicken tax-free mid-size pickup truck segment - the choices list would extended with the Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50, Toyota Hilux, Volkswagen Amarok, and Mitsubishi Triton. But that is fantasy, and this is a sales success story, so let’s get our feet back on the ground. At least for now.

The Taco is hard to beat. Nevertheless, the Colorado is selling slightly better than GM projected. Even though the Tacoma is HIDEOUS, it's probably the best one in the segment. I haven't driven the new one yet, but Toyota does the Tacoma very well.
