Both of you, have you heard of the 320 bhp Toyota Supra TT of the 1993.5 model year? Why do you always get so defensive and resort to Lexus bashing when an article is posted about BMW? This sounds like major insecurity. You need to validate yourself even more by bandwagoning to a brand because you, yourself are not significant enough to stand on your own; without a car to have as a crutch, you would be so god damn miserable. There is no Lexus equivalent of the 335ci right now, so I wouldn't get your panties in a knot just yet. Between the 335ci and the Lexus IS 350, it would be a toss-up which one I would choose. My gut feeling tells me the IS, though, since it is much more luxurious and warm, but also has amazing handling and acceleration. Both are fantastic cars.

This post had nothing to do with Lexus or Toyota or any other car brand for that matter. It was about the lap times of a BMW.

Those are impressive numbers indeed. They point to how close the current 335 is to the outgoing M3 and underscores the need for the next generation of the V8 M3 that will certainly distance itself from the 335 again in performance.

This was achieved with RUN-FLATS.
With some proper tires the 335i is will probaly leave both the E46 M3 and C55 AMG behind.

Impressive times. No doubt the 335i is a monster that has raised the performance bar again. And it handles well too, sticking to the purist BMW philosophy.

Logical, I have to admit you are wrong. There is no Lexus competitor to the 335i coupe.

The IS350 only comes in an automatic and was not built to slot the gap between any two cars. The 335i was specifically built to split the previously huge gap in performance and price between the 330i and the E46 M3. The 335i offers similar performance numbers as the E46 M3 for a fraction of the cost.

Lexus has no IS500 yet and there is no way you can compare a Lexus with 4 doors and zero track capabilities to a BMW coupe with a brand new turbocharged engine.

BMW wins and I'm glad to be adding to my "winning side" lineup.

I would like to mention that the BMW 335i is clearly the better all-around performing car when compared to the Lexus IS350 when you take factors such as acceleration, 1/4 mile, slalom, braking and handling into account - the 335i wins.

It's as simple as that.

No kidding. Why are there so many haters on brands here? There are a variety of cars made because they cater to different senses and practicalities. If somebody thinks that an IS 350 gets their mojo going, then why the hell not. When I drove it on different occassions, it got mine going. Who the hell is anybody here to argue differently. I drove around in my friend's new 330ci (M package) for a week and it handled great, but still, it is not like it is perfect either. At times it felt a bit soft too although an amazing handler. In comparison, the 3's interior looked cheap compared to a new IS. I like the leather and all, but the black plastic trim with a carbon fiber pattern looked awful. I wouldn't mind either car, but if I could have one, then it would be an IS 350.

I know BMW530i, call me a fool for having sampled the best in automotive interiors and driving dyanmics in the premium-luxury playing field.

RS4 lapped the 'Ring in under eight minutes, while the M5 couldn't (BMW struggled to make it go under eight minutes).

BMW has yet to build a motor as stout as Toyotas peerless 2JZ-GTE inline6 from 13 years ago. So there is no need for Toyota/lexus to follow thru. After 13yrs, BMW finally figure out how to do twinturbo. 335 doesn't even handle anywhere near or have the handling dynamic of the SupraTT. You'd think that after all these years BMW would show some progress.

Now please don't compare a stripped down car to a sporty GT like the 335i.
If you want to compare the WRX STi with something comapre it to the M3 CSL.

Also, get this thru your head, the the twin turbo direct injection was build to also prove better fuel economy and lower emissions.

You can't compare it to the 3.2 litre I6 NA, because that's an ///M engine who doesn't have to worry about such things.

Stop kidding yourself in beliveing the IS 350 is a rival. The 330i will leave it behind on a track, while
a 335i, with proper tyres will equall or surpass the likes of the E46 M3, the C55 AMG and S4.
The IS 350 won't stand a chance.

Neither the RS4 or M5 broke the 8.00 minute barrier.
The RS4 struggled to achieve 8.09 on the Nring with aditional sport chassi, P Zero Corsa Tires, etc.
In doing so it beat the M5's 8.13 time.
This was expected, but for the RS4 this wasn't easy at all.
On the Hockenheim the RS4 lost to the M5 on the Nring.
However this cars are from diferent classes.
Both are best in their class.

However the M3 sedan is coming.

Nevertheless, the Nurburgring is probably the best track in the world for developing a good sport/sporty car.

Porsche and BMW have been developing their cars on the Ring for decades.

They (BMW and Porsche) are also the most succesfull manufacturers in the 24 H Nurburgring race.

BMW achieved their first Nurburgring victory in 1970 with the 2002. At one point there was an add saing "finally a sedan that won't be ashamed on the Nring".

BMW and Porsche are BMW and Porsche because they've made a lot of tests and learned a lot from the Nurburgring.

In the end it merely shows that the 335i has potential. Versus the old american way of 0 60, and the quarter mile, this shows that car's chassi is also
properly tuned/tweaked.

But make no mistake about it, the 335i isn't a raw thing like the M3/CSL/GTR street-legal.

Nice times but not what I expected. I expected times somewhere around 5.2-5.4. Maybe it was all the hype that had my expectations so high. This is a coupe that we are talking about. I read that the upcoming Altima does 0-60 in 5.8secs and its a sedan. My guess is that its probably heavier also.

If You check off every option, 335 starts to cost about the same as M3. When that happens, only an idiot would choose the 335 over M3 especialy with that ugly interior in the 335. So I ask again....where's the progress?

Ricemaster, the progress is in acceleration and performance. The 335i was never made to compete with the E46 M3. The 335i was designed to bridge the huge price and performance gap between the E46 M3 and 330i except with the newer models meaning the E90 M3 and E92 335i coupe.

You can get a 335i basically fully-loaded for almost the same price as a base (and I mean absolutely zero options) on an E46 M3. The 335i's performance is almost identical and the fuel economy is much better.

That right there is enough progress.
