Audi's June 2015 Global Sales Rise Only 1.3% Hurt By Sales Decline in Chinese Market - YTD Sales Up 3.8% Maintains Slight Lead Over Mercedes-Benz
Compared with the same period last year, AUDI AG’s worldwide sales from January to June increased by 3.8 percent to around 902,400 cars. For the first time in the company’s history, more than 900,000 customers had already chosen the brand with the four rings by mid year. Even though important model changes are imminent in a number of markets, sales climbed further in all world regions – particularly on the American continent (+12.4%). In June, worldwide deliveries of around 157,450 were slightly above the level of the same month last year (+1.3%).

“So far, 2015 has been a year of challenges for us. We are meeting these challenges successfully and remain on track,” says Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. “Many markets have become significantly more difficult, especially in Asia and Eastern Europe. In addition, we are preparing for new generations in key volume models and markets. These make up around 40 percent of our global sales.”

This year just got a whole lot more interesting for Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes Outsold Audi by over 12,000 Units Globally for the month of June?!?!

And Bimmer narrowly outsold Benz for June by less then 3,ooo units!?!?

Is Mercedes really about to take back its Global Sales Crown it held for over half a century, that it only allowed Bimmer to hold for a decade?

Time will tell...

The sales gap globally between BMW and Mercedes-Benz is still large. BMW globally is at 938K whereas Mercedes-Benz is not even at 900K. The real question is will Audi hold off Mercedes-Benz this year?

NO one is denying the sales gap, but when you look at the Gap between Bimmer and Benz at this time last year and the year before, Benz has reduced it significantly.

And with their disappointing 7 series coming out which technology will already be eclipsed by the E Class allowing you to remote park the car with your smart phone instead of a key fob, BMW is definitely feeling the heat.

Audi unfortunately has already thrown in the towel, their saving grace was China and now that Benz is established there, its over, and the less than thrilling all new A4 is not helping their case either. The A6 and A8 are 2 of the biggest sleeper on the market right now in their respected classes sales wise.

If the next Audi A8, A6, Q8 and Q6 are heavily influenced by the Prologue and feature some excellent design, technology and driving dynamics, Audi could dethrone BMW for the top global spot..

The interesting thing is despite Audi seeing such a slowdown in global sales due to unfavorable trends in China and key model replacements for the Q7 and A4 around the corner, they are still in second place.

If the A4 and Q7 sell better than the current versions, Audi might hold off Mercedes-Benz for second place and if the next A8, A6, new Q8 and Q6 are amazing products, Audi could actually overtake BMW for first.

The problem for Audi is once the new A4 is introduced, sales of the A3 will reduce. A3 sales are only up currently because the A4 is aged. Any uptick in A4 sales will be offset by a decrease in A3 sales. And I don't think the Q7 will have an impact on sales due to its relatively lukewarm reception and because of the XC90's tremendous reception.
