Mercedes-Benz Interested In Budget Cap For Formula One Teams

Toto Wolff, boss of Formula One championship leaders Mercedes, has become the first team principal to lend support to radical proposals from motor sport’s former governor Max Mosley, to reward teams for adhering to a budget cap write Katy Fairman and Christian Sylt.

“I think Max’s idea is interesting,” Mr Wolff told Forbes from the Mercedes F1 headquarters in central England. “If you want to follow budget caps and you are prepared to follow a budget cap you could have a bit more freedom in the development. It is an interesting idea.”

Of course Mercedes-Benz is interested in budget cap. That have the quickest cars at ~2sec/lap faster than their closest competitor. The rest of the constructors will need to spend more money to catch-up, which Mercedes would like to block. I would be OK with this if they add in the drivers salaries since the $140M deal they just signed with Hamilton would put a crimp in what Mercedes could spend on car development.
