Wake Up And Smell The Coffee: UAW Claims It Will Not Accept Anything Less Than Gold Standard Healthcare Coverage

Automaker spending on health care for hourly workers and their families likely will top $2 billion this year. In just the past four years, it's grown 45 percent for Ford Motor Co. and 77 percent for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US.

The United Auto Workers has been resistant to giving up the gold-plated health care coverage it has for more than 135,000 hourly workers. But with surging costs, Detroit automakers are looking for relief in contract negotiations that officially kick off Monday between General Motors Co. and the UAW.

UAW hourly workers enjoy some of the best health care benefits in the country: There are virtually no premiums or deductibles and minimal co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions. Two-tier workers have higher deductibles.

What good is a gold healthcare target when your job is shipped outside of the country.

What good is the BEST Healthcare when you build shoddy cars and trucks. I would make them pay BACK ALL their premiums if they have any further recalls.

I wasn't aware that UAW cars were the only ones with recall problems?

No - but they build the MOST unreliable cars, or they get their jobs back after drinking and smoking pot. You wouldn't be a UAW worker telling us all you build great products??? You're not in this video are you:

I've never purchased an American car since they have never met my needs. I just detest mindless idiots with an axe to grind. I'm not sure what the final analysis was for 2014, but earlier in the year, it was GM #1 for recalls followed closely by Honda and Toyota.

The UAW wanting the "gold standard" of health care is just another bunch of Far Left Liberals thinking that money comes out of rainbow unicorn butts.

The UAW should be actively seeking ways to attract manufacturing to the USA instead actively driving jobs to Mexico.

@Terry989: My duma@@ brother worked for Ford Motor Company on the line in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He would say to me: You got a PhD and I make more money than you putting nuts and bolts on cars. Then he would follow it up with a smirky smile and say: "As long as I get my iron out; that's all that matter to me"

I would tell him with that kinda mentality no wonder the QUALITY of American made cars suffer. The dinosaur UAW saved his bacon 2 or 3 times. He should have been fired for being drunk on the job, but all they did was give him a slap on the wrist, put him on PAID leave for 2 weeks. What a bunch of crap. You or I would have been fired from our jobs.

The American UAW auto workers collectively have poorer quality vehicles then their counter parts in Japan. I use to drive Toyota's, Honda's and Nissan's when I was 15-28 years old. I still have a Toyota truck going strong. I WILL NEVER EVER buy an American made vehicle in protest of the crappy cars my brother once built, and the dang UAW getting those Chrysler guys drinking on the video, their jobs back WITH FULL PAY. The union will do that but I guess people buy into that garbage!! NO wonder Michigan recently went to a non-union opt out state (so they could try and attract auto companies to the NORTH again).

I will ALWAYS buy German cars because I love the sportiness and performance in them. I like Toyota, Nissan and Honda if I want a reliable car - more so then the American made.

If you bunch all the recalls in the last 10 years from the America auto makers, I think they will definitely out number the foreign makers. BTW: How many of those parts on a Honda are truly made in Japan anymore. The plant is in Marysville, OH - aren't they AMERICAN auto makers building the product there?

If some idiot American can glue a car together than some cheap monkey can do it too. Keep it up and I'll be rooting for the Japs to put them all out of business. Atleast they build their cars on our soil instead of shipping "Made in America" to Mexico.

A big reason UAW costs are so high are their workers more than likely live terrible lifestyles. Drunk every weekend, bbq and diabetes.
