Nissan Mulling A Maxima Nismo - Are You Finally Ready For A REAL 4 Door Sports Car?

With sales of the all-new Maxima off to a good start, Nissan is weighing options to broaden the sports sedan’s appeal, a senior program executive told TheDetroitBureau.com.

While a coupe or some alternative body style isn’t in the works, Nissan is looking at ways to put even more emphasis on the sport side of the sedan, and one possibility getting serious consideration would be to add the Maxima to the growing list of products getting the NISMO treatment.

Drove an 06' Maxima in college and have since upgraded to the Germans. It was such a fun awesome reliable car and 06 was the last year they made it without that CVT crap and was able to hit 60 in 5.8 - 6.1 sec depending on tires, fuel, and weather all while getting close to 30 mpg highway

If they add 4wd to this "Nismo Maxima", give it the same power as the Z, then we are talking about something with potential, until then I can not take them seriously

They should do a Nismo version with a souped up engine immediately.

Next, they should make a limited-production, AWD with the twin turbo 6 from the GTR and call it the Maxima GTR, selling for $80,000 to challenge M5, E63 etc.

I'm just wondering if Nissan is going to try and do this with FWD? If they do the 3.7 from the Z or Infiniti sedans you are going to have significant torque steer coming out of tight corners, bumpy roads and perhaps stop light charges. AWD is going to up the cost a minimum of 4 to 5 grand not including the engine and suspension upgrades. Now you are looking at a 50 plus grand vehicle. Being that it is a Maxima it would have no value when you can buy an Infiniti product for less. So I think they may have to stick with FWD, keep the 3.5 N/A engine and just tune it a little bit to say 330 HP, upgrade the CVT or offer a 6 speed manual, and upgrade the suspension and brakes a little. Nissan could sell it in the very low 40 grand range. Or take the GTR platform and extend the wheelbase to fit under a Maxima body. You could get away with 50 or 60 grand with that kind of performance and handling.

The 1st thing they need to do is fix the cpillar. It would have to be awd and it will need a dual clutch. The cvt just won't do.
