Realistic Expectations? UAW Claims All Members Regardless Of Education Or Job Should Earn Middle Class Wages

General Motors Co. CEO Mary Barra and UAW President Dennis Williams on Monday vowed to come up with a contract for 50,800 hourly workers that will help GM’s long-term success, while Williams reiterated bridging the gap between tier-one and tier-two workers.

Williams, speaking at the official kickoff of contract negotiations at the UAW-GM Center for Human Resources, said ensuring job security for membership in the future, as well as bridging the roughly $10 an hour pay gap between tier-one and second tier workers, is key.

“I’ve said that we want the ability to make sure that our members remain and begin. ... Some of them are not part of the middle class the way they should be. And some are,” Williams said. “And how do we find that path?”

Equal pay for equal work: Good concept.

You remuneration corresponds with your contributed value: Good concept.

Everyone gets the same pay*: Communism
(*Except those running the show... they're rich, in capitalism and communism)

They already earn middle-class wages. Obama has so decimated the economic standing that middle-class is a lot lower these days.

Again, the UAW should be negotiating to bring more manufacturing jobs to the USA by working with car companies rather than being the bullying union Gestapo thugs they are.

Bush (the idiot son) decimated the US economy and destroyed the middle class. When Obama took over, the US was already mired in the worst recession since the great depression thanks. I love people who try to rewrite history in order to support their delusional fantasies.

Get your facts straight you Liberal tool. Obama Bin Barack doubled the all time debt in 2.5 years and then doubled that in 5.

Matty, you are forgiven for you fit’s of stupidity since it's been a bad few weeks for you mindless Republican deconstructionists.
- The Pope spoke to god and told us that overwhelming scientific data points to global warming and that each and every one of us should be kind to the planet
- The right to same sex marriage has been upheld in all 50 states
- You lost your Republican rallying symbol for outright racism (the confederate flag)

I don't like the increased debt any better than you do, but a v-e-r-y large percentage of that is attributable to the Bush-era tax cuts (yes, the idiot son), the economic downturn and recovery measures. If increased debt is your only measure of a good President than Clinton was the best President we've had in modern history.

What burns you brainless idiots the most is that since Obama took office:
- Jobs - up by $7.8M
- Unemployment rate down 5.3%
- Job openings +94%
- Business start-ups +20%
- Real weekly earnings up 2.6%
- Corporate Profits +182%
- S&P +157%
- U.S. Crude oil production +94%
- Petroleum imports -60%
- Wind and solar power +252%
- Exports of goods and services +31%
- Natural gas has now surpassed coal for electrical production. This also comes with some notoriety since a prominent member of the elephant circus show (Rand Paul) now blames Obama for his state’s recession saying that we should be digging and burning more coal and not less

-Terry989 do you really you believe Obama's policy did all these? Really the S&P un 157%? My 401K is obviously not up 157%. You and your fellow DEMS are clueless about the economy that is why most of you are struggling and need the government for your medical care, your welfare and so on. Now I know you DEMS are really ignorant. I bet you are one of those mooching off the government just like the unions. We are back to were we where 7 years ago, no improvement. Just look at the value of your estate. And now that things look slightly better you DEMS want to take us back to the old ways, spending more, bigger government, allowing people to buy homes and cars that shouldn't. Because "its the American dream". Income Equality? Whatever! Bust your behind and make something out of yourself. You guys are a bunch of socialist, always hating the people that do well.
And please don't associate all REPUBLICANS as equals, I am moderate republican who served for my country for 23 years as a naval officer, what have you done for this country beside talking SH*^t?

_USNA199 - Ahhh, another f***ing idiot with his hands down Matty's pants massaging each others prostates. I can't help it if you are a poor investor, you just can't fix stupid. My 401K is up significantly since the Bush days (the idiot son) and my house has gone up 40% in value. I own my house, have paid cash for all my cars since 1987, I have banked reasonable amounts of money through moderate living, I've traveled around world living with other cultures, I have a mixed marriage, and I work ~55 hours/week - - - as far as you are concerned I'm the antichrist since I don't fit your mold. Just like every other Republican moron I have ever known, you paint everyone into the same box that either Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity. If Entropy hasn't already set it, use the brain you were given.

But now I see the problem, you were a Naval officer, doesn't this mean you mooched off the government and my tax dollars for 23 years? of course you always benefited tremendously during the Republican years as they funneled obscene amounts of many to military branches to pay back the cronies that got them elected. The problem is you haven't had a real job. Don't blame everyone else for you poor decisions in life and your inability to ingrate back into mainstream society.

Terry just like you I have traveled and lived all over the world. Call it what you want but for me it was real job for 23 years and proud of it. I know you DEMS hate the military but still call yourselves patriotic. As for now, I am financially secured in my 40s even though I haven't had a real job, lol. I have a great job and pension. I am a Field PM for an energy company, loving it, I am off all summer. Don't be hating since I guess I haven't integrated that well;)

Well you know where I stand....with the IDIOT brother who worked for Ford's 32 years he would say I soaked Fords. Every year this same concept from the UAW comes up for those dinosaur UAW clowns.

They drive the price of the cars up. BTW "Terry" I totally agree with you about President Bush. He tried to finish what his daddy didn't do (goto Bagdad). President Bush is the ONLY President in U.S history to get us involved in multiple wars at the SAME time AND give a TAX BREAK.

I remember asking my dad who served in WWII aboard the USS Cosco Naval ship. He said no President has EVER in any wartime, given a tax break during a war. Money is always needed to support the war.

Google middle income range and you will find the recent range is 25k to 75k, so the current UAW wages are well into this range. Don't forget these workers also get generous profit sharing payments.

I don't see any justification to increase higher tier wages, if anything they should be paying more toward healthcare like most everyone else in the private sector. I can see the lower tier getting wage increases, with a goal to reduce the wage gap. For example, 5% over 7.5 yrs would close the gap.

Still the trend to move jobs to Mexico is going to continue based on the overall high wages the UAW set.
