General Motors Investing $1.4 Billion To Expand Arlington Texas SUV Plant

General Motors plans to spend $1.4 billion to expand and improve its SUV factory in Arlington, Texas to meet strong demand for its vehicles.

The company said the plans, announced Tuesday, represent its largest plant investment in the U.S. this year.

General Motors will add a new paint shop, body shop and general assembly area upgrades to the 60-year-old assembly plant.

Given how well these big vehicles sell, investing in them makes sense. I really hope GM is designing literally all-new versions that keep the size, but use aluminum and carbon fiber to drop weight, and that true hybridization with a plug-in option is on the horizon.

The current quasi-all-new models are a good stopgap.
