Mercedes-Benz Pushes A45 AMG 2 Liter Powerplant To Over 380 HP

Last month, Mercedes-AMG announced the A45 AMG would benefit from a more powerful engine, its 2.0-litre turbo upped from 345bhp to 381bhp – a move completely unrelated, of course, to the arrival of the 362bhp Audi RS3.

Now comes the turn of the A45’s siblings. Merc has given the CLA 45, CLA 45 Shooting Brake and GLA 45 - which all share the A45’s platform – this new, more powerful version of the 2.0–litre engine, making them all suitably rapid.

With the right launch, tires, and road conditions, this ting should be able to hit 60 in 3.8/3.9, I know Benz is claiming 4.2 sec but they tend to be on the conservative side as last time they claimed 4.4 on most publications got 4.1/4.2

Say what you will about the CLA/GLA, their AMG variants are doing some serious damage and rewriting the rules on super car performance stats

This is a brilliant way to get the attention of those who are fixated on hp numbers (the "more horsepower is better" crowd), and do so with a lower selling price.

Personally, as a consumer, I ask "What's in it for me?" Will I get better fuel economy? Fewer failures? Enhanced durability? Lower repair costs? Or is this just another way of offering a higher horsepower number for the "more horsepower is better" crowd?

To each their own, I guess.

Well TheSteve I am happy to inform you, you can find all those things and more at your local Toyota/Honda dealer...Enjoy, oh and please do not fall asleep in the showroom or on the testdrive...it's quite dangerous

Since the entire point of this car is lost on you, why bother comment?

Yes, you are a consumer. We are enthusiasts. No offense, but why do you bother clicking and commenting cars that clearly has no relevance to your needs, ending almost every post with "to each their own, I guess" or something of that sentiment. Does that make you feel superior about your own choices? Does that make you feel superior to those that value power and handling above utility and economy?

Can I get this engine in a Miata?

Seriously. Would love to see an MX-5 with a huge powerplant.

But @cidflekken you would lose the Miata's hair dresser/nail girl balance. LOL

Stop agreeing with me.

Hell could freeze over.

In fact, "minus" me. It's a hobby practiced by my ardent admirers.

Well, I cannot wait to see how well the new "45 AMGs" perform. More hp and quicker transmissions will certainly result in some amazing numbers. I hope they spruce up the interiors a bit (that center console area is just plain dull, as it is in the new GLE/GLE coupe).

Audi is gasping in response and the BMW FWD products are nowhere in sight...
