Infiniti Uncloaks Q30 Premium Crossover - Will It Make Headway Against the A3 And 1 Series?
The first ever Infiniti Q30 Premium Active Compact is ready for its world premiere at the International Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.

Featuring Infiniti's iconic design language, the all-new Q30 represents a category-breaking vehicle concept developed for customers seeking urban individuality. Its dynamic drive characteristics provide for Infiniti-typical confident and responsive performance as well as excellent ride and handling. Crafted trims and expressive interiors extend the striking design approach from the exterior into the passenger cabin.

The public premiere of the Q30 Active Compact comes exactly two years after its precursor, the Q30 Concept, was introduced at the 2013 Frankfurt show. The unmistakable approach of that winning concept has been fully maintained as Infiniti's all-new Q30 compact vehicle is introduced to the market.

"Design is a key pillar of the Infiniti brand, and the new Q30 Active Compact perfectly embodies this approach," said Infiniti president Roland Krueger. "The Q30 Active Compact delivers the distinctive design, the driving dynamics and the individuality that our customers expect of an Infiniti vehicle. With our first ever entry in the compact car segment, we continue the product offensive and provide additional options for our discerning customers."

The Q30 Active Compact underwent final testing and development in Europe. It will be built in Sunderland in the UK, which then becomes the fourth country on three continents to build Infiniti vehicles.

Press days for the international motor show in Frankfurt this year are on September 15 and 16; public days are held September 17 to 27.

Dead in the water more like it. I predict that when the 1 Series comes, BMW will have a stampede on their hands. This will make people recoil in horror.

This will definitely sell...

#1 it's entering one of the hottest segments of the industry where these small crossovers practically sell themselves, especially in major cities

#2 Mercedes-Benz will make sure its a success as it's built on the same platform as their GLA and is just another source of revenue!

The Q30 isn't a crossover, but the QX30 will be.

I predict Infiniti will continue to struggle in defining themselves, and in getting recognized as a serious contender for a top luxury brand. I believe one of their biggest obstacles continues to be their "weird" styling.

The door handles are strange when you look at them.

A faltering brand, and a feeble attempt.

Start the Infiniti death watch clock now.

Shouldn't this be called "QX30?"

Anyway, I don't see why people think Infiniti is a dying brand. They've experienced consistent sales growth in the last few years.

I'll have an opinion when I see it in the flesh.

This article sites "Infiniti's iconic design language", which *ME*, reminds me of older Hyundais: swoopy, excessively creased body panels, and what I would call awkward styling. Yes, these designs are recognizable, but attractive? No. That's just my view, though.

But do Infiniti consumers see these designs as attractive, or are they getting an Infiniti because they're respectably good premium cars, in spite of their questionable styling? I ask because I've read articles that Lexus buyers site the current styling -- which I see as ridiculously hideous -- as one of the reasons they got a Lexus, so somebody sure likes it... a lot!

This is probably not going to help infiniti

The Q30 will have a challenge to find success in the US. The QX30 stands a better, albeit still marginal, chance at finding success. Infiniti badly needs a true game changer and these "30" series are not it.
