With The New F-150 Topping Out At Almost $75,000, How Long Until We See A $100,000 Pick Up Truck?

An unnamed product planner for an unnamed truck company candidly told me off the record once: “There is no ceiling for trucks right now. It’s incredible.”

He’s right. Ford’s announcement yesterday of a truck that’ll likely sniff $60,000 to start is a far cry from your grandfather’s Ram that he bought for three dairy cows and a handful of sawdust.

Reuters reported that the average sale price for a full-size pickup is $42,429, which is 30-percent higher than it was six years ago. Certainly, trucks don’t have 30-percent more stuff or 30-percent more anything to justify the price hike. Truckmakers are just being good ol’ capitalists and testing what the market will bear.

I'm actually surprised Range Rover, Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes haven't gone there.

I'm not surprised. At all!
The full size pick up market is one of the last bastions of American dominance. The areas where the full size pick up really sell - are hardcore flag wavers - and while I suspect a foreign manufacturer might pick up sales elsewhere - they will hit a wall in the American south - MidWest and Northwest. And that is because the market is not interested in a "SPORTS Truck" - they want traditional American power, luxury, and ostentation. And it is one of the few places where the two American manufacturers hit the target as close to on the nose. These buyers do not want a smaller but more NIMBLE vehicle - and they buy the Escalade as their Luxury car. Really makes you wonder where the idiots in charge of the rest of Cadillac came from?

Being a loyal buyer... Can't justify those sorts of prices. Took home a platinum f150 last year around 40k... Granted the 2015's were just hitting the lots so it was discounted but just don't see 70k+ being a viable price. One of the reasons these are so popular is what you get for the money. Truck capability, comfortable seating for 5, decent lux and options. Go much higher and you have me buying a 5 series alon with a low level work truck for less.

$75,000 worth of pure hideous-ness. Pitiful.

What FOOL pays $75,000 for a truck. And a Ford truck, no less.
