Bailout, Buybacks, And Fines: Would The Obama Administration's Actions Be Different If Fiat-Chrysler Was Wholly American Owned?

On Monday, the Obama Administration announced the largest vehicle buyback program in history, involving 580,000 Fiat Chrysler vehicles.

Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said the sanction was imposed because the car company failed to come up with adequate repairs for Dodge Ram pickups and Dodge sport utility vehicles.

The big vehicles, built from 2008 to 2012, were part of three separate recalls announced by NHTSA in 2013. They’re also the subject of $105 million in civil penalties.

With the situation with the GM ignition switch looming over everyone's shoulder - I do not believe that the Government would treat any car manufacturer that differently. I suspect they will use as heavy a hand as they can - because one must remember that THEY are using this to re-establish their validity after they Dropped the Ball.

Obama bin Barack--the socialist that he is--despises business and needs to beat them into submission. The 500+K unit number is wildly misleading. The affected vehicles are AMONG that amount but are in fact a fraction of the amount, Moreover, the vehicle actually in question are one that had not been repaired usually due to OWNER NEGLECT.

It does seem the foreign companies get much harsher treatment. It may just be that companies that are Obama connected/supporter receive favored treatment. The GM actions will make this clear.
