Audi C-BEV concept revealed for Frankfurt Motor Show

This is the Audi C-BEV concept that will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) in September and evolve into a production battery-powered electric crossover that was announced by Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management at Audi AG for Technical Development, at Audi’s Annual Press Conference 2015 in March. Moreover, Audi released a teaser of new Matrix OLED tail light today that could feature on this concept.

A report released last month says that the Q6 e-tron range will also include plug-in hybrid and fuel cell variants, although neither should be expected to debut along with the standard pure electric variant. The C-BEV concept’s production version will arrive in early 2018.

I'm not happy that so many manufacturers have bought into a common vision of "The Future." To them, it looks like sharply creased body panels, straight lines resembling folded paper (Origami), trapezoids, and overly stylized squinty lights. This is the tail fins of the 2010s :-(

The "Ital Design" sharp edged 70s look was bound to return sooner or later, but the illustration above really says a lot is wrong with Audi at the moment. The first thing is that the illustration looks virtually identical to several VW concepts. You could put a VW badge on it and people would think they saw it 3 years ago. Beyond that, the design is so generic and derivative that it could be any car. Is it a Kia? Is it a Hyundai? Is it a Honda? Nope, it's too good looking to be a Honda, but the point is made.

I happen to like the sharp edged look from the 70s. The Golf/Rabbit looks more attractive in its original form. I love the TR7/8. Love the TVR Tasmin. Love the Audi Fox's look much more than the A4. Love the Lagonda.
