OFFICIAL: Lincoln Showcases The Continental Concept's Seats — How Does 30-Way Adjustment Sound To YOU?
In the past couple of weeks I received an invite to a Lincoln press event in New York. It was a relatively small gathering from what I understand but I couldn't make it because I have other obligations. You know, working for a technology start-up.

I really wanted to go too. That's because the Lincoln Continental Concept was slated to be in attendance and, if you ask this writer, it's one of the year's coolest cars.

At this point it's far too early to tell what will make it to production, however, we've seen a mule running around the Detroit area so all signs point to a "Go" for the Continental. Another great sign are its seats. That's what this New York event was actually showcasing.

Featuring 30-way adjustability, these seats are going to essentially conform to your figure no matter your shape or size. This is a big deal as seats essentially are one-size-fits-all. Granted, the luxury market has been addressing this for years with thigh support, lumbar support, shoulder support, inflatable bolsters, heating, cooling and airplane-style headrests.

If you compare what was shown in photos and video, it's clear the company is productionalizing these seats. Note the bolsters, head rest as well as perforation.

According to the issued press release there's been over 50 patents have been filed as of July 2015 with over 100 more disclosed or under review. In other words, these are some pretty bad ass seats likely to boast some serious innovation. One such example, check out how you can extend the thigh support on the right or left side. That's a first.

We're looking forward to experiencing them ourselves first hand!

Lincoln Continental Concept 30-way Seats Preview new era of Wellness and Luxury

>30-way seats previewed in Lincoln Continental Concept can create a feeling of wellness through improved support of the body, massage features and more adjustability

>Comfort and functionality complemented by sumptuous materials such as Venetian leather and a modular design that allows further personalization options

>Key innovation is patented flexible comfort carrier suspension system that supports and conforms to a wide range of body types, taking stress off shoulders and neck

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 5, 2015 – Feeling refreshed and rejuvenated – even after a long trip – is possible with the 30-way seats introduced in the Lincoln Continental Concept.

“The next frontier to serve the luxury automotive client is a seat that conforms to and supports the body – a seat that feels as if it were personally tailored for you each time,” said Johnathan Line, advanced seat innovation supervisor and technical expert.

In addition to greater adjustability than previously offered to better tailor and personalize their experience, improved comfort comes from a patented flexible comfort carrier.

This suspension system of plastic and a thin layer of foam flexes around the body, helping take stress off the shoulders and neck.

“The new design of the Lincoln 30-way seats goes beyond the one-size-fits-all design seen in the past,” said Line. “It conforms to your body and supports it in ways not previously possible.”

Lincoln seats engineers studied first-class and private airplane seats for possible applications. Lisa Senters-McDermott, CEO of Jet Senters Aviation, believes luxury drivers will welcome the influence of high-end aviation seating.

“Private aviation caters to no-compromise clients,” said Senters-McDermott. “These seats certainly seem as if they spring from an elevated, no-compromise approach.”

Support for the lower body and legs is provided by two extending thigh cushions, each independently adjustable. The cushions can be extended or moved up or down.

This allows the driver to further personalize the adjustments and give support as needed to each leg independently, recognizing the different needs for each leg - one is at rest while the other engages the pedals.

“That planned relaxing weekend getaway can get off to a sour start if you’re tired and stressed upon arrival – you end up needing a rest for your rest,” said luxury travel expert Dena Roché. “A seat that offers a wide range of adjustments, more support and massage and other amenities can help leave the driver refreshed, alert and ready to enjoy that getaway.”

Additional comfort is provided by massage functions in the back and cushion. The rolling-pattern massage is designed to help reduce muscle fatigue, aches and pains by keeping muscles and blood vessels stimulated in the legs and lower back.

The seats can be heated, and cooling vents are included as well.

“Creating a seat that tailors itself to your body and can be adjusted to the situation to make you more comfortable can be a big benefit,” said Christopher Kempski, an ergonomist for Ergo Concepts, LLC. “In my field, we develop solutions for industries that create the best possible fit between workers and their tasks – in essence reducing fatigue. When the body tires, the mind follows, so keeping the body refreshed is vital.”

I cannot wait to see the production Continental. I'm hoping that they pretty much build the concept and not dumb it down like Jaguar did from the CXF (hot) to the XF (meh). I also hope that the updating of the MKZ into the Zephyr (?) purges as much MKZ as possible, although the prototypes look like it's stuck with the current roofline.

Well, the good news is that you're wrong. The great news is that I could never be considered a "hack" as I never have proclaimed or wanted to be a journalist. So, you're pretty much barking up the wrong tree.

I won't ban you now just so I can have more laughs.

Have a nice day! :)
