Study Says 9 Out Of 10 EV Owners Will Never Go Back To Gas - Would You Sell Your Soul To The EV Devil?

Fully nine out of 10 electric-car drivers say they won't go back to cars with internal-combustion engines, according to a new Ford survey.

The results included responses from 10,000 drivers of both battery-electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

It found that 92 percent of battery-electric drivers, and 94 percent of plug-in hybrid drivers, plan to purchase another plug-in car as their next vehicle.

The psychology of EV owners drives the attitude. They believe they are morally superior for going EV, so even if owning an EV sucked sewer water with lumps, they would never admit it.

Oblivious to the fact that if they don't live in a sunbelt state they are probably are polluting more due than a fossil fuel vehicle due to the dirty power grid

@Agent009 Precisely. I was listening to KTLA news this morning and the talking head said "If we're going to get people to move to EVs we have to give them incentives." I rolled my eyes. Living in California where rolling blackouts are normal, we simply do not have the power to charge all the EVs that the dimwits think will be our saviors.

Most of the world's electricity is produced by burning coal. Next most popular method is burning natural gas. This accounts for the vast majority of electricity generated globally. Good thing electric vehicles use a "clean" fuel ;-) Oh, and never mind the man behind the curtain manufacturing those batteries and then getting rid of them at the end of their life cycle. I'm sure all that's spotless, too.

It feels good to feel good, doesn't it?

What part of California do you live MDarringer where rolling blackouts are normal? I lived in Bay Area and now in So Cal but don't have the same experience. Must happen to auto dealers only.

That's just Matt the moron talking out his ass again. I live in the Bay area in California and haven't ever experienced rolling black outs. Of course Matt does live in Bakersfield, the backwoods armpit of California. It wouldn't wish that hell hole on anyone.

@Terry989 the Central Valley does experience rolling blackouts. It's public knowledge, but I do thank you for taking the time to down arrow me religiously. I grin knowing I am a thorn in your side.

So Matt the Moron, these rolling blackouts you experience are caused by more people buying electric cars? Turning off air conditioner or at least raising the temperature in your house will save more grid energy than electric cars use.

IT is a skewed result to begin with. The people who have already bought an EV did so because they do NOT have conditions in their normal driving that would be against it - like range problems. For some - there is simply no ability to stop and charge -even with a 300 mile range. In addition - the availability of charging stations outside the home is severely limited or non existent in some areas.

But the fact is - an EV - because coal generates most electricity - is not cleaner to the environment - and getting rid of the batteries is still another problem for that environment. IF California has to add several new coal fired electricity plants - because the current grid cannot possibly handle the number of EVs they are talking about - the air will suffer.

Why would California have to add coal fired plants? Coal for power generation in California has been declining for several years. As of 2014:

% California Power Mix
Coal---6.40%
Large Hydro---5.60%
Natural Gas---45.00%
Nuclear---8.60%
Renewables---20.40%
Unspecified Sources of Power---14.00%

Total power generation from coal in the US as of today is 39%. If you assume the above 14% from unspecified sources is is comprised of 39%, than the total coal based power consumption in California is 11.8%.

I own an electric car (Volt). And not a single thought went into thinking how much "green" I was getting myself into. Not that I don't care about it, but a majority of owners that I've spoken to before purchasing my car, was that the joy of owning one was almost never having to go to gas stations and the comfort of charging it at home. It's just downright convenient. I most certainly didn't buy my car thinking I was helping the evironment, foremost. It's just an easier car to take care of.
People talk about range problem like they travel long distances every single week. If an EV vehicle gets up to 300 miles per charge every single day; how is that not better than a gas engine car who pumps gas once a week and still only get 300 per fill up..?? I'm, by far, not a lobbyist for electric vehicles. I still own a CE car (Subaru WRX wagon). What I'm trying to say is, for people like me, who actually owns one, not all of us think about the "environment" when factoring all the reasons to purchase one. I drive the EV more so than my CE counterpart purely for convenience.

Why are your pants riding up your crotch about EV owners buying EV cars and not wanting to go back to gasoline? It's their boredom, not yours. Nobody is pointing a gun at your head forcing you to get out of your 5-speed V8 car? As for feel good to feel good, how's that different from drivers enjoying loud ear splitting V8, don't those people feel good from feeling good?

nguyenvuminh writes "...As for feel good to feel good, how's that different from drivers enjoying loud ear splitting V8..."

The difference is that many "green" folks *believe* they're saving the planet by driving a hybrid or EV and using a blue box and composting, when in fact a person who does zero for environmental consciousness but chooses instead not to procreate does far, far more to save the planet! On the other hand, folks who like engine noise don't claim to be saving the planet. They just like engine noise. They also don't have a "holier than thou" attitude towards those who don't like engine noise, or preach to them that they should, for the good of mankind and all living beings.
