Just my humble opinion, 001; but you should just put the search box where the button is, and stack the options on the right hand side. One less step... or put it in an expanding "div" box when you roll your mouse over.

While I'm at it, you should make the tagged keywords in each article clickable so they automatically run a search on that term on the website.

Agent001 - Why not offer a feature so users can send messages to other users without the use of comment articles. "Like an e-mail sort-of thing"

I'd like to see Autospies NOT turned into a chat-room. The level of formality already existing makes Autospies a more 'upmarket- feeling site. (despite some of the posters being less than mature) ;)

As long as we're all making suggestions may I make another one...

Seeing that many users turn the comment section of an article into a chatroom already, why not add a respond option under each individual's comments? This way an e-mail could be sent to the writer letting him/her know that someone has responded to their comment.

Hey OOJT, we're working on a single level of reply threading, so that you can reply to a post, as opposed to now where it's one long conversation. We don't really want to turn this into a forum type of app, but we do see a need for some advanced features. What you're talking about, though, is in addition to this, also allowing users to be notified when some one responds to one of their comments? I think that could be feasible, but of course it would have to be something you'd opt into.

webguy, we're working on your second suggestion already. We initially setout to link only certain keywords(those which would actually return results) but we're seeing real performance issues with it, so we may end up being a little less selective.

As for the location and functioning of the search feature, out goal is to provide our information as efficiently as possible. Our "old" search, was fast, but didn't provide what we thought were relevant enough results. This "new" way provides MUCH more relevant results, but adds in an extra step. We've just received Google's search appliance, so hopefully this will bring us the best of both worlds in the near future.
