Does The All-New 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Look TOO GOOD For Mercedes' Own Good?
This week Mercedes-Benz finally dropped the curtain on the all-new C300 and C300 4MATIC Coupes. As a lot of eyeballs have been keeping an eye on this vehicle's development, it is a big deal.

And, as we predicted, after seeing tons of spy shots and pictures of the vehicle exposed, it is a very similar look to the flagship S-Class Coupe. Some may think this is genius, others may think this is a bad move.

Pebble Beach Concours Weekend

Why?

Well, it can be considered genius because all of the plebeians that can't afford the six figure S-Class Coupe can now get as close to it as possible via the C. It can also be considered bad because now the S seems to lack a truly differentiated exterior design.

There's no question that both Benzes are beautiful products. The question, however, is if this design has diluted the S-Class Coupe's swagger. So, has it?

What say you, Spies?

The all-new 2017 C-Class Coupe will seduce your senses with its alluring exterior, richly appointed interior and advanced technology. Featuring standard LED headlights, Panorama Sunroof, Sport Suspension, KEYLESS START and more, the C300 Coupe and C300 4MATIC Coupe elevate expectations of what a modern luxury car should be. Learn more about the C300 Coupe and C300 4MATIC Coupe in this video. European model shown.

No. If the C and 3/4 were inferior products, then yes, there's a greater risk. But they are both superb products in their respective classes.

Audi runs a greater risk due to the familial resemblances of their products to the VW sedans and the fact that VW still suffers reliability issues.

Sorry, not sure what question i was answering...DOH.

To answer YOUR question, the answer is still "no". The C is likely to be an incredible product just like the C sedan. So, it shouldn't really take away from the S-coupe despite the resemblance. If the C class had been an inferior product, then yes, there's a much greater risk it would take away from the S.

C Class Coupe will be huge success for Benz

Unlike BMW & Audi, Mercedes STARTS their new design language from the TOP S Class on down. Which is how the C Class becomes even more desirable as ppl, like those here, perceive it as a baby S Class.

The resaon why Bimmer and Audi suffer at the high end is their design language timeline is backwards, its harder for people psychologically to fork over north of $70k for what they perceive as a stretched A4 or 3 series considering both those models start the design language for the brands.

All in all the C Class is an attractive vehicle most likely even better looking in person, match that with the best in class interior, and this thing will sell itself. The fact that it takes after its more expensive sibling is only more reason to buy.

Nice car. Hyundai will have their version of it directly.

Hyundai would never build anything that devoid of styling.

That is blander than bland. It's a NO.

My initial opinion was the same as yours. I thought it was an underwhelming design. But after seeing a few videos with upclose passes of the lines of this car and seeing it in motion, my opinion is quite different. These pictures, specifically, the ones that look almost animated (in silver/gray), don't do it justice.

i just dont see whats the point of an S class coupe with this out there... that being said i think this car on looks alone gets an A.

In general people looking to buy an S Class coupe would never even consider a C Class coupe. However aspirational buyers will snap up a C Class coupe, and from the looks of it, they will get a nice car! So the similarities between the S and C coupes will not impact S sales but could boost C sales.

This has been MY point about Audi - and in some cases BMW for years. The reality is - from a slight distance - it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between a number of different Audi models - from the A3 to the A8. They are not just "very similar" - they are almost identical. And while that may work FOR the lower models - it definitely is against the higher models.

The new C-Class coupe is indeed very similar to the S-class coupe - and I do like the styling. I would believe it would be a benefit to the C-Class coupe to look that way for sales - but Mercedes DOES have an advantage - they still use an engine size designation - as well as the Letter Designation - so it is easier to figure out than that single number in Audi.

nice but the architecture of the A5 is still better. The back end is squat and the proportions look a bit odd from the sides. The A5 is very well proportioned from every angle. And the A5 still looks like it has a wider stance. Maybe this looks better in person BUT the C class still is weak from certain angles too. Its the curvyness of the the C class line that sets it up for odd looks other than bang on front view or side view.

Yes, the A5/S5/RS5 is still a handsome car, but it follows the cliche formula of a 3-box design. Same as 4 Series. Same as ATS Coupe. At least Benz has the gumption to take it a different direction and stand out with a sleek design.

A C class 63S coupe with 507 horsepower will be the enthusiast's choice. The S class coupe is for CEO's wives. This car gets me thinking that the next generation E class coupe might be the best of all.

I truly cannot wait to see what Mercedes does with the next generation E-Coupe, especially since they promised they would make an AMG version. The current E-Coupe was my favorite design in the segment for a while but it become dated quickly even despite the facelift 2 years ago.

As an MB fan , I do not like it, Everything is nice but rear is horrible...looks like a Civic or Accord Coupe....Hopefully the C63 can fix that with an spoiler otherwise that rear is a no go for me.

Like everything except the kink upward in the side rear window. That part reminds me of the outgoing C Coupe.
