SKETCHED OUT! FIRST Look At The All-New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible!
So, let's be real. As of right now the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the best large luxury sedan on the planet. No ands, ifs or buts on that one.

The company rolled out the gorgeous, streamlined S-Class Coupe and while you don't see them too often, I recently had the chance to get behind the wheel and it was every good as one would expect. Exceedingly comfortable with a bit of a sporty edge, it's a wonderful grand tourer. Simply put, it's tough to imagine it getting any better.

Oh, but it has.

That's because if you've been following AutoSpies, you'd know that a drop-top variant is on the way. We've written about its spy shots quite a bit. While much of the automotive media has been swept up in all the Pebble Beach happenings and trying to fit in with some of the world's biggest automotive collectors, Mercedes-Benz's global corporate Instagram released the very first image of the all-new S-Class Cabriolet.

It's a sketch but it's pretty evident where the brand is taking this auto. Essentially slice the top off an S-Class Coupe and there you go.

The return of a Star. The new S-Class Cabrio is the sixth addition to the current S-Class family and the first luxury four-seater by Mercedes-Benz since 1971.

Ok Mercedes, you can stop taking a major dump on the industry now, we get it, The Best or Nothing...

This S Class Cabriolet will definitely be an annoying thorn in Bentley's side

LOL!

Seriously though, Mercedes is absolutely KILLING IT!

Completely agree on the S-Class Coupe/Cab hurting the Continental GT. To me, you'd have to be completely insane to buy the CGT now with the S Coupe here and Cab on its way.

Given how long-in-tooth the Bentley is...YES.

Europe is truly the best when it comes to luxury and prestige.

Europe = The King

I just wish Cadillac is making the Elmiraj, so that Caddy can compete with the flagship models of Europe.

And we all know Lexus, Infiniti and Acura have miserably failed now. Those 3 are just, slightly more luxurious appliances made by Toyota, Nissan and Honda.

I perceive the attitude at Mercedes seems to be, "F*ck it, let's build it and spare no expense" and I love it. I don't understand why Audi, BMW, and Lexus just seem to be okay with Mercedes dominating the upper-end of the market. Certainly, they are all trying to focus on the volume-generating lower-and-mid-range models, but I think Mercedes has succeeded in elevating its brand image to almost a complete step above them, even with the new R8 and this year's i8. Helping that cause is also how well executed the C-Class sedan is and the upcoming coupe, which have just taken that game a level higher as well. Can't wait for the C450 AMG Sport to crush all comers. I just wish it were on sale before I had to sign papers on a new car.

On a slightly different note, I wish Acura would take the same "F*ck it" approach and just go for it across their entire model line. Lord knows they have the technology and engineering know-how to build cars that can go toe-to-toe with the Germans and Lexus. But, at least for now, they remain bean counters and want just volume sellers.

BMW has an M3 and i8. Audi has an R8 and the upcoming A9. BMW and Audi are considered to be the true status symbols.

Lexus, on the other hand, has nothing. We can't honestly expect much from the Japanese "luxury" brands.

You do realize Lexus has the LF-A, RC-F, GS-F, as well as the new convertible models coming that compete with M3, I8 and R8.

LOL. GMC, I can only say you provide true entertainment on this site. I won't even bother responding to your comments.

And david999, the LF-A is gone. The RC-F already is forgotten. And the GS-F is starting 100-200hp short of its intended competitors.

cid, I know what you mean. That's because I always tell the truth and everyone knows I am right.

David, LFA? No one cares and it's gone. RC-F, no one cares about this one, either. GS-F, announced and forgotten immediately.

There is practically nothing great about anything Japan produces.

I would have liked to see that 4 door convertible they were thinking about.

As a Lexus employee, I can assure you that while we admit we've seen better days, theres is a lot coming down he pipeline and lots to be excited about.

@LexUSA29...So--to recap--"Don't buy anything from Mercedes because I--words on a screen--say Lexus has things coming." Prepare for a Mercedes sales implosion.

Yeah right!!! I was just in Carmel/Pebble Beach where I saw Lexus's very most recent models the 2016 LX570 and the 2016 GS in person that Lexus had on display and they were such a disappointment like all the other latest models with that hideous gigantic Predator grill that just makes each new Lexus model uglier and uglier as they progress in to the future of their new designs. Lexus new designs = FAIL!!!
