Volkswagen Reports New Takata Airbags Are Failing To NHTSA
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is widening its Takata airbag probe after a Takata side airbag in a Volkswagen SUV ruptured in June.

To date, Volkswagen vehicles have not been implicated in the massive Takata airbag inflator recalls that in the U.S. have affected around 30 million vehicles from 11 manufacturers. Takata airbags that can explode in a crash have been linked to more than 100 injuries and at least eight deaths. It is unclear how many VW vehicles use Takata airbags.

A Takata-made side curtain airbag inflator in a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan crossover ruptured after the driver hit a deer, a Volkswagen spokesman said. The driver did not seek medical attention, and no police report was filed about the incident, which occurred in June, the spokesman said.

I guess the wave of the magic wand didn't help.

Last time I heard, Takata was on the verge of bankruptcy and they were meeting with the bank daily to continuously "prove" solvency. I'm not hopeful.

"new air bagS" This is one incident, not multiple ones as the title would indicate. And it is "unrelated" to other incidents in the past as the article states. BUT the NHTSA is just NOW asking Takada about all the bags made with ammonium nitrate and where they went. Wouldn't that be one of the first questions that someone looking into a problem would ask? Also get and publish a list of all the explosives used by all air bag manufacturers and where those went. It appears NHTSA is part of the problem as well as Takada, the latter surely headed into bankruptcy.
