CR Magazine Determines Tesla's Model S P85D Performance Claims Are Overstated

You may have seen Model S P85D tests before, but we do things a little different at Consumer Reports. We bought a Tesla Model S P85D—our test car is not on loan from Tesla. And all the testing is done in a precisely controlled environment—our 327-acre auto test facility in Connecticut. Like every car we purchase, the Model S P85D was put through an extensive gauntlet of more than 50 tests and evaluations, after a significant break-in period.

Below are a few highlights of the Tesla Model S P85D test results:

Spoiler Alert:
The sensationalize AutoSpies headline does not accurately reflect the tone of the article. The only "shortcoming" the article points out is "...a scant 3.5 seconds to get to 60 mph in "Insane" mode — a bit short of the advertised 3.1 seconds...". That's it. The rest gives the Tesla credit where due. Overall, it's a positive review. You wouldn't think that from the AutoSpies subject.

Next possible headline (don't know when this one is coming but perhaps soon)...

"...the Wall Street Journal indicates Tesla's claims of future profitability are overly ambitious; unsustainable dependence on government handouts to blame..."

mre30: I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but I believe the scenario you describe is not far off the mark.

Autospies articles all too often notorious for their clickbait headlines and injection of US-centric right wing politics, all the while misrepresenting what the actual facts in the story say. The CR report is mostly glowing in praise of the Tesla, and the 3.5s 0-60 measured in their real life tests puts this $100,000 car directly into supercar territory occupied almost exclusively by $250,000-$400,000 cars ...and able to seat 5 as well. SImply put, according to this CR report, Tesla has an incredible car. Autospies agents should try enrolling in a reading comp course. Various online colleges offer them.

Here's what happens when you race from a rolling start:

But the is quite amazing in its "element" (0-60)

Overstated just like their sales figures. Tesla is surviving base on investors pouring money into the company. I would be very nervous if I am Musk...he is the automotive equal to Madoff! Tesla should name their next model the Ponzi!

I say add a second or two to 0-60 and give me an extra 100-150mi. My dong is big enough I don't need to shave an extra .2sec off.
