GM States 124 People Died From Ignition Switch Defect - Claims Denied For Models Not Covered By Compensation Fund

The compensation fund for those hurt or killed as a result of defective ignition switches in General Motors Co. cars said Monday it approved a final injury claim in wrapping up a nearly year-long review of almost 4,400 claims tied to defective switches in 2.6 million recalled vehicles.

The final tally was 124 deaths, nearly 10 times more than the 13 deaths GM executives reported as the controversy unfolded in 2014. The fund also approved claims for 17 serious injuries and 258 less-serious injuries.

Fortunately we live in a country where we have a legal system where one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. That puts the burden on a prosecutor to develop enough evidence to warrant a trial. It would appear that there is not enough direct evidence against Mary Barra, or the others that have been referred to in various articles of this nature on this site, for people to be lynched as you desire. Bad stuff happens and sadly people die or are harmed, by corporations, government, organizations, people, etc. But you gotta have proof it was deliberate. As the TV ad says "Nobody's perfect". Even you guys.

Read the article, "The U.S. Justice Department, meanwhile, is nearing a decision on whether to charge GM criminally"

Penalty should be easily be 10x the Toyota payout.

"And unlikely any person in the company will be charged". Ergo Barra. Too hard to get evidence for that in huge company like GM. Charge the company and they settle financially. Standard Operating Procedure. Government gets the money!! Also highly likely that the settlements reached so far contain language preventing the recipients from taking any further action against the company.

Takada will be the interesting one. It has been alleged that Takada engineers doing life testing found evidence of the problem years ago, and were ordered to stop the testing by management. And Takada kept on selling. If true and evidence is found, that could result in Takada employees being charged.

Everyone is missing the bigger picture here. The compensation pool is only for select models with the defect. Other models had the defect and caused deaths but were not included in the settlement pool.

Basically they were left out in the cold by lawmakers and GM.
