Tesla To Begin Deliveries Of $132K Model X Crossover Starting September 29th - Preorders For Model 3 In March
Tesla Motors will begin delivering its luxury electric crossover, the Model X, on Sept. 29 to customers in the U.S. who have already reserved the SUV.

The Model X, eagerly awaited since it was announced in early 2012, will launch with a premium-priced special version called the Signature series that will cost between $132,000 and $144,000, a Tesla spokeswoman said.

It is customary for automakers to debut higher-priced versions of their cars before introducing standard models.

i would be a littl salty if i had a deposit for this Model X for the past 2 years and to be told that the first versions are only the $132k to $144k version & thtat I just have to wait some more to get the regular version

The price of $130-$140,000 is just shocking. Even at $100K the price is still shocking.

I can't wait for the side-by-side comparo's of the Model X to the other >$70,000 SUV's. Heck, you can buy two brilliant Volvo XC90's for the price of this porker.

I couldn't see any cupholders in the web images and the interior looks as austere and uncomfortable as the inside of Disney's Monorail.

Even putting aside the out and out strangeness of the 'falcon doors', six-figures for a quirky electric SUV is just insanity. Honestly, to my eyes, its a bloated and stretched Tesla Model S. It is not a handsome vehicle. Curious to see how it does.

It's going to do very well.

They'll sell every one they build.

Tesla has Dark Clouds ahead - now that both Audi and Mercedes have said that they will compete. Tesla insists it will not compete with price - and the others have a regular dealer network that will. ANd that is just the beginning of the problem. Yes - Tesla will sell every SUV they make - until they go belly up

Lol! I'm sure you said the same thing when the roadster came out.

Audi and Mercedes won't have all-electric cars in actual dealer showrooms and on the road until 2020 in real life. They are so far behind and got caught with their lazy pants down. And expect Audi and Mercedes vehicles to be about $20k to $30k more expensive then the equivalent Tesla. Count on it.

The gullwing doors are a crash safety nightmare. Sliding doors would have been better for this van and yes that's what it looks like. Cue the protests of the morons who think Tesla can do no wrong.

If this car is successful then take note BMW: all you have to do to make fart sniffing consumers trip over themselves to buy 5GT's is put "falcon doors" on it and double the price, apparently that is the secret to getting people to drool over the awesomeness of what physically looks like the exact same vehicle. And Acura, you can bring a "falcon door" ZDX back, too, set some sales records.

Ha, Ha, JRob - BWM and Acura could one-up Tesla and call their version of 'falcon doors' - "Eagles Wings".

BMW and Acura could soar their way to success on "Eagles Wings"

please explain how a 5GT can have a 3rd row and seat 7. While you're at it, please explain how a 5GT can accelerate to 60 in 3.2 seconds and get the equivalent of 87mpg.

the 5-series GT is $60k less. The version that is the quickest is 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds. To which I could acquire a X5 5.0 or GL550 and pocket a cool $30k in the process to use for gas for the next 15 years. That is what the ultra fast version would have to keep to justify paying $140k for a green car that barely seats 7. At least with the GL550 I get a very cool 7-seat and functional vehicle.

once again, you evade any direct answer and basically throw in the towel based on price alone. Using your logic, we might as well be talking about a Honda CR-V instead of a 5GT. The answer is of course, is that BMW, Audi, and Mercedes cannot match Tesla with performance, price, or features. They simply got lazy, smug, and have their pants down around their ankles. It will be 2020 before any direct competitor from them hits the market for actual purchase. And looking at Audi's pricing for the e-Tron R8 as a guide, any electric from the Germans will be insanely expensive. (2016 R8 V8 $180k+, V10 $211k+, eTron probably even more) and performance specs 0-62 3.9sec) STILL get smoked by Tesla's big 7 seater SUV.
