Cadillac Sold Only 196 ELRs In August - What Would It Take To Put One In Your Stable?

As the U.S. auto industry technically lost a small amount of new vehicle sales volume in August 2015, sales of the unappealing Cadillac ELR plunged 77 percent to the car’s lowest monthly total yet.

In fact, August 2015’s collapse of the Volt-based ELR’s sales comes precisely one year after the ELR reached its best-ever monthly volume.

196 ELRs were sold in America in August 2014, a figure which decreased by 85 units the very next month and by 151 units a year later.

Over the course of the last nine months in which Cadillac has reported year-over-year change for the ELR — the range-extended electric went on sale at the end of December 2013 — sales have never fallen this sharply. Indeed, over the first five months of 2015, ELR sales were far healthier, relatively speaking, than during the same period one year earlier. ELR volume more than doubled in January, February, and May and jumped 81 percent through the end of May.

Cadillac has gigantic problems - of that kind which won't be solved by an office move to NYC! They should instead move to the old Mercedes Benz Headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, NJ - maybe some of that good Mercedes karma will rub off on them.

What Would It Take To Put One In Your Stable?

Hell freezing over. Or give it to me free so I can sell it and come out ahead. It's so NOT my cup of tea.

Overpriced - check
Poor performance - check
Volt platform - check

No thanks. I wouldn't even take one for free as it would just waste space in my garage. Nope, actually, I wouldn't let it stay in my garage. It'd be parked on the street and hopefully someone will hit it and total it so I can collect the insurance payment.

GMCadillac should weigh in on this.

I should weigh in, why? Because your Asian garbage like Lexus and Hyundai are still struggling to beat the Germans?

Or you mean about this ELR? Let me ask you something, which car is more popular, Escalade or Lexus LX? That's right, Escalade.

No one cares about an ELR just like how no one cares about Hyundai and Lexus, the Asian junk that sell only due to cheap price and overrated reliability.

Happy now, my Vietnamese friend? ;)

They would need to make it look like the RX350F ...reliable, quality, dependable. But GM/Caddi have no clue what QDR is!

Not interested in buying a Caddy which is nothing but a rebadged Chevy at twice the cost. Only a fool pays double for a lowly Chevy.

Let the world laugh at Caddy for the failede ELR and never again have the nerve to mention the Edsel. Caddy has far, far exceeded the failure of the Edsel.
Caddy ELR is the poster boy for FAILURE.

I'm probably a minority here but I actually find it attractive in real life.... Oh well.

As for what it would take to buy one, it would first need to have all wheel drive to even make the consideration list. Beyond that, I've never asked myself the question so I don't really have an answer...

Give it to me for free. Oh wait, Cadillac is virtually doing that already. No one wants a Cimarron oops Voltillac oops ELR. The truly terrible first generation Volt screams through on the ELR. The ELR is a great $40K product, too bad it's much more than that.

The "truly terrible first gen. Volt" was the best EREV/PHEV on the market and arguably still is as the second gen. is being delayed. Now just because you can't appreciate that doesn't mean that tenths of thousands of folks driving one aren't either.

Aawww, I love you too GMCadillac :-) I love how you tie Lexus into all of your posts, even those that have nothing to do with Lexus. If Lexus is so insignificant and such a loser destined for a dark future, why are you so obsessed with it? And you're right, the Escalade sells so much better than the LX. Imagine that, the home product selling more on its home soil than some radiation infested foreign product. The world is full of amazement doesn't it? Now come on, don't be shy, let me give you a hug, and I promise, not the aggressive hug that Macchione is talking about for your beloved GM.

It is to note that GM did not make a 2015 MY of the ELR and that the 2016 is going to have a lower list price and improved performance. Either way they will not make very many of these.

Noting that a superior "Volt" will be on the market soon - I cannot see why anyone who could use such a car would spend all that extra money for the Cadillac. It is Not an Edsel - it was NEVER the whole division offering - and likely was planned to sell very few to begin with - compared to other Cadillac offerings - HOWEVER - it actually sold almost 200 cars - that is a lot of cars for Cadillac - which really cannot sell cars - because few of them actually are useful. I'll bet DeNYsschen is proud of that accomplishment - and Mary Bara will still back him up. I cannot believe that the GM board is allowing this nonsense - they must all be brain dead too!
