Lexus Claims It Is Now An Emotional Brand - What Feelings Stir Inside Of You When You Hear The Name?

When I tell Brian Bolain, marketing manager for Toyota’s Lexus luxury brand, that the new, radically-styled Lexus NX and Lexus RX utes are the most polarizing vehicles I have driven, he beams.

“Lexus is no longer just a rational brand,” he likes to say of its emotional “L-Finesse” styling.

Irrational? Emotional? Lexus? Those words once never appeared in the same sentence together, much less the same page. Introduced to the U.S. market in 1989,

Article: Lexus Marketing Manager, Brian Bolain, claims their customers "love" their new look. Assuming this is true, and not just the smoke and mirrors that are typical of marketing folks... well then, that's great for Lexus and their happy customers!

I have to agree with Bolain that Lexus is now "emotional." When I see one, my emotions are ignited, but not in a good way :-(

Lexus is like a classic case of "Good Girl Gone Bad", like that girl in highschool no one really noticed but everyone knew she was kind, polite, and honest, then overnight she tried to change into the girl that everyone notices but it just looked more awkward and desperate than anything.

However the sales do not lie, and Lexus must be doing something right outperforming the Germans in the states for the last couple of months...time will tell.

Watched MotorWeek review of NX. According to John Davis, "the NX is based on the Toyota RAV4....the power comes from a Camry hybrid engine." Toyota customers moving "upmarket." Simple. Pay a little more than getting a Toyota but not as much as a MB/BMW.

They're still not emotional to drive... that was always the problem, not the styling.

Sleep is the primary response. A giant grill and a few swoops cannot change the driving dynamics. I have a LS460 as my cruiser, mainly for the Mark Levinson stereo, but there isn't a sporting bone anywhere in that body.

I had an LS460 before my current MBC350 Coupe and it was a great car but it did had its share of issues. The so called "bullet proof" reliability is BS. It was in the shop as much as my previous MB C230 Sport. I did put over 155K on it;) That still wont prevent me from getting another one. Maybe I can convince my wife on the new RX.

When I hear the name Lexus, I think of Fukushima radiation, earthquakes, floods, volcano, broken education system, racism and many other great things that Japan is proud of. Emotional, indeed! LOL!

http://www.economist.com/news/business/21603434-japans-premium-motor-brands-are-still-far-behind-their-german-rivals-giant-carmakers

"Japan’s premium motor brands are still far behind their German rivals. The giant carmakers that own them are missing out on pots of potential profit"

"the German trio now have 70% of the market for fast, expensive and luxurious cars, whereas the Japanese have just 10%."

The Germans enjoy 70% of market share, and if you were to include the British, Italians and the Americans, that becomes 90% of the world market share, as the U.S. and Europe are the kings.

And Japan. 10% pffft. Do you know how Japan even got that number there? With cheap pricing and reliability. Meaning, Japan will always be a cheap car maker, NOT a luxury car maker.

I feel a bit nauseous when I hear the name or see the car. That's my feeling...emotional translating to physical.

Lexus--for me--brings up excellent build quality, stellar reliability, and admirable durability. They are the Japanese version of traditional Mercedes attributes, that Mercedes achieved in perception if not in reliability.

Do I see Lexus as an "emotional" brand? Nope. Their caricature styling is a mood killer. Fortunately the Genesis is as good as a Lexus in every way and looks good.

build quality, stellar reliability, and admirable durability? You really are not very smart, are you?

Why do you always talk about the same thing with different words? You are talking about "Reliability" alone, and nothing else.

And unfortunately, without reliability, we all know there is not a single buyer for Japanese luxury cars. Same goes for Korean.

There is nothing wrong with Lexus. Extremely good build quality and reliability. I find the grill lovely but many don't however the same people who hate grill should revise their thoughts as I am sure they thought the same when Audi changed theirs around 10 years ago. The other wonderful thing about blogs and the net is that attracts complainers for complaining sake. Most people who like something don't mention it so the the blog will always be out of balance.

Whenever someone tells me a car has character or passion... It's marketing for we build POS and the buyer better have money to fix it and be a freaking idiot! Like bmw and Audi drivers!

My Lexus/benz character is luxury reliability and passionate about my family and I safety! It's called being a MAN! not a man with a 12 year old mind!

My GL350 bluetec has been nothing but trouble. We love it, but soooo many issues that shouldn't be at 60,000 miles. And I abslolutely hate the transmission. anytime you do more than feather the gas pedal it wants to rev high (for a diesel). I want it to shift at lower RPM (2,000-2500). Anything even remotely bisk and it goes past 3,000 RPM. I loved the DSG in out passat TDI. It kept the RPM's lower and let the diesels low RPM torque work like it was intended. We've had to change motor mounts, oil cooler seals (and now another leak sprung up that requires removal of the engine to fix) the DPF heater went out, the steering column module went out, the right wheel hub assembly went bad,had to be brought back to replace the right one again due to a parts defect, then had to replace the left one, 2 wheels speed sensors had to be changed, the hatch often will not close when I push the button, I have to lock and/po unlock to make it work. Of course it wouldn't do it for the dealer lol. now I have to replace the air spring because there is a rattling and poping noise, which continued after they replaced the Ball joints. This thing has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned. My Land Rovers have been way more reliable. Heck, I've had my old 87 BMW 325 for many years and it has had less issues in the last 10 years than I have in 6 months in this Mercedes. I had a ML320 quite a while back and it was very trouble free.

Lexus' claim is true, the emotions caused by their new car designs make you feel negative and or bad when looking at them because they are so hideous or ugly. Lexus and or Toyota don't seem to give a dam what they're cars look like these days or whether you like the way they or not.

Well, If my face were that ugly, i'd be emotional too. The amount front overhang on their new SUV'd is ridiculous. The front isn't actually that bad but looking from the side there is so much front overhang its ridiculous. Thats the single reason I wouldn't buy a Lexus SUV.

The hideous spindle grill design really makes the Lexus cars and SUVs look like their really pissed off or really upset about something like it doesn't like the way it looks and yes that overhang is ridiculous like it wants to grab one of their senior citizen client and eat or chomp on them and or their grand children.

I just picked up a slightly used 2015 GX and I completely agree. Wife's request so.. Happy wife happy life. I'm on the verge of asking her to back it into the garage as the front end is not appealing at all. It's a great SUV with 3 rows without being grossly huge but man... That grille. It's going to take a while or some paint to make it blend better. At least it's black and I can have the chrome painted. Outside of that, it looks like a frowny clown...

Same old brain dead no nothings.....gm is the biggest moron on this site, and that's saying something. Lexus builds much some great driving cars. They are full of features that work and have low NVH due to the stronger body structures. Many other improvements that these people are too dump to understand.....LOL!!!
