Rumor Mill: BMW Engineers Want Lexus LF-A Successor To Be The R8 Killer They Can't Build

BMW is teaming up with prestige brand – and nominal competitor – Lexus, to develop a new supercar that will outperform Audi's R8.

"BMW are getting trounced in the PR war of words in Germany with Audi coming straight out and saying that BMW does not have a supercar whereas Audi does," says a source close to Lexus.

BMW wants to change that, with Toyota's help.

Our source lets on that both companies have jointly built a prototype in a mid-engined layout with full-time AWD. In fact, in terms of powertrains, we are hearing that the next generation LFA will get a drivetrain system not unlike the new Honda NSX's, with electric motors driving the front wheels fitted inside an aluminium space frame and carbon-fibre bath-tub configuration.

Audi may have already produced a R8 killer without anyone's help. The exterior design of the new R8 seems to be a big letdown to many current owners and reviewers alike.

Yup. The new 2016 R8 sure cured me of wanting to get one :-(

The R8 is a badge engineered Lamborghini that a 911 or a Stingray can dispatch...so much for a "supercar"...

German loyalists how do you square this partnerships? Seems like Lexus credentials are pretty good after all.

The only thing BMW really wants is a reliable supercar from Toyota. When they get that, they don't really need Toyota anymore, as the Japanese engineering is practically now outdated and dying.

Just a rumor mill and many of those end up being still born, but even then it still kinda stings a little doesn't it when they reach out to Lexus instead of Cadillac.

And it stings a little, doesn't it, when you can't directly reply to me, my Vietnamese friend who obviously has no plans to go back to where you came from? ;)

And also, how do you like Japan's Fukushima radiation problem which is now still a big problem in Japan? And it's actually pretty funny how you still think you would be considered as one of them in Japan, clearly you are not really aware of Japan's racist attitudes towards other third world countries (Especially Vietnam ;))

It's funny, isn't it? You keep making fun of America and Cadillac and yet, got no plans to go back to where you came from, which is a "far nicer" place than the U.S. is, am I right? ;)

Not to mention, all that you can do is to say crap and nothing intelligent. Unfortunately, you are already proven to be a troll. You are never good at arguing, so stop trying, "Vietnamese" friend ;)

It's a good thing BMW and Gm are not working together...or their cars would have ignition electrical engine suspension failures! But if their death traps kill people....Obama UAW will protect them and help pay their fines with taxpayers money! WE all know GM ENGINEERS NEED THEIR MARKETING DEPT TO HYPE THEIR YUGO ENGINES DESIGN! GM IS STILL WORKING ON SQUARE WHEELS AND TIRES! THEY DONT BELIEVE CARS SHOULD LAST BEYOND 5K MILES!

GM IS A MASS MURDERING CORP! GOT AWAY WITH MURDER AND TAXPAYERS MONEY! LOOK AROUND ..MAKE SURE THE CAR NEXT TO YOU IS NOT GM...IT WILL KILL YOU AND FAMILY!

GMCadilac, I've directed my posting at you before so I'll do it again here. Many people here know that particular posting is directed at you. And if you're so enamored with seeing your name on the web, here it is. Your pathetic attempt at elevating Cadillac by belittling Lexus is childish at best. Likewise, by associating your favorite with the German makes is pathetic as well. Your taking shots at Lexus, even on posts that have nothing to do with Lexus, speaks volume about your obsession and jealousy of Lexus' success (relative to Cadillac); I wouldn't even call it obsession I think it's fetish. As far as your pointing out Fukushima, heck, that's pretty original when you have mentioned that 50+ times. Here's a word for you, Three Mile Island. Last time I check, if Japan is so pathetic, then why do we Americans buy so much of their stuff. Heck, we're so great we buy craps from China, Germany, even pathetic Vietnam as well, and who knows where else. BTW, how's your Japanese girlfriend doing? Now come here and I'll give you a hug, you know, the kind that Macchione is offering to your GM.

The only reason to pair with Lexus, I would assume, would be because they have the resources to produce a full carbon fiber vehicle, where I do not believe BMW has. The new R8 needed to WOW after being the market for 8 years already, and it just looks like a refresh instead of a complete evolution of the vehicle. I still like the design, but I do not believe it was the leap many anticipated.

Let's get something straight~ BMW did not pair with Lexus, they paired with Toyota. This is all just talk...
