UH OH! Volkswagen May NOT Be The ONLY Automaker Gaming Its Cars To BEAT Emissions Testing

A European environmental group issued a report earlier this month that suggested other automakers in addition to Volkswagen and Audi may use software or other technology to enable their diesel vehicles to perform better in emissions testing than in actual, on-road driving...

...The report from Transport & Environment, as the European federation is known, raises doubts about the integrity of Europe’s emissions testing and suggests that other automakers may have used similar methods to improve readings in emissions tests. The federation released its report on Sept. 10 — before the EPA disclosed its conclusions about Volkswagen — but it attracted little media coverage...

...Nico Muzi, the organization’s spokesman, went further, saying Volkswagen is “just the tip of the iceberg..."

If your beloved automaker got caught with their pants down don't blame someone else.
As for GM, I agree that they should have paid a whole lot more for their ignition switch issue but that would have bankrupt the company. Two things would happen. Lots and lots of people would have lost jobs (something the country cannot afford at this moment) and second an American Icon would have disappeared forever.

I guess...you're saying if you big enough and you kill hundreds and injure thousands of decades...its OK! If Hitler was alive today, base on your logic - he would be a free man! What about the men, women, and CHILDREN GM killed and injured....I guess their lives don't mean crap. Cheating execs lives are more important. IF GM went out of business...there will be others to take their place that would be more responsible NOW WE HAVE THEM AS A EXAMPLE TO OTHER CORPS..ITS OK TO KILL AND INJURE PEOPLE W/O ANY PENALTY. ITS OK FOR YOU TO KILL AND INJ..AND BE FREE.

I am not sure where you are heading with these comments. So VW bribing obama would make it ok for VW.
What I believe is that rules and regulations are necessary evils to keep the private companies in check. I also believe that breaking the rules should have consequences. Since the CEOs and the higher executives are responsible for the companies, they should be held accountable for these issues (sent to jail when necessary) on top of fining the companies.

Again - another GM basher who really does not care about the deaths - except in the ability to bash GM.

Automakers ALL make cars that are driven faster than they should be - and the number of deaths due to accidents where speed was a fact are MANY TIMES the number of deaths in the GM case. ANd YET - I have never seen YOU complain about that - Tens of Thousands of people could be saved if Car manufacturers made cars that could not exceed the speed limits - and yet - you consider the far fewer deaths are a reason to close down an auto company.

If ALL auto makers closed down - and auto's were banned - there were be no auto-related deaths. ANd that is what YOU want - ISN"T IT?
