German Magazine Reports That BMW Might Have Cheated On Emissions Testing Too

The German trade magazine Auto Bild reports that road tests conducted by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) found the diesel BMW X3 20d Xdrive guilty of emitting more than eleven times more NOx gases than the limits of Euro 6, Europe’s latest diesel engine emission legislations. Oh boy.

If true, this proves that the dieselgate disaster is far from being a Volkswagen-specific issue. While BMW X5 passed its test in California done by the same people who found out about about Volkswagen’s cheat software, the ICCT suggested before that BMW, Opel and Mercedes-Benz can be in trouble as well.

there's an "UPDATE" section at the bottom of the article in the link, and it concludes with:

"In summary, BMW is just playing by the rules to be competitive. VW is cheating."

Really, the car company whose engines (in the grandpa-focused 750i) consume a quart of oil every 1,500 miles, whose transmissions and cooling systems self-destruct at 75,000 miles, and who provides a minimal "free scheduled maintenance" that basically gets the car to the lease end date so it can be fobbed off on an unsuspecting customer who then incurs $1,000's in repair costs a year later due to the substandard "free maintenance" when it was new - that company, bmw, might also be using "CHEATER" emissions software?

I am shocked...totally shocked!

Ya know, this is getting old. You sound like a twelve year old that never leaves the house.

Japan makes some nice cars. So does Germany, England, Sweden, Italy, and the United States. Quit using your broad brush against everything non-Asian. Guess what, that's racist!

Update: BMW contacted R&T with a statement of clarification from Autobild on how it obtained the reportest test results. "?The emission values of a BMW X3 xdrive 20d sent to AUTO BILD by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) had been supplied to ICCT by British test institute Emissions Analytics," the statement reads in part. "The values mentioned in the document were only generated in a single, one hour-long road test. Auto BILD has no access to the details of this test trail, which might explain the discrepancies to the test cycle NEDC.

"?In light of the VW emission scandal, AUTO BILD deems it of utmost importance to emphasize that the communicated emission value of the tested BMW X3 is by no means proof of manipulation or the existence of a defeat device as found in the vehicles of VW [. . .]? AUTO BILD never intended to accuse BMW of manipulating emission levels.?"

So basically it was one test on one X3 that was proved to Not Contain a Cheat system as VW/Audi did. And the disclosure has recanted the initial complaint ...

The nature of diesel is dirtyy! Clean diesel is a dream! Like lions tigers bears are veggans. Can change nature unless you chart...and that will have negative implications .... Ask VW!

BMW will not burn in this dieselgate scandal, they don't cheat and need not cheat, the proof will be revealed in time
