I have to say even though is a royal screw up. I am shocked at how fast they are reacting to it.

GM and Toyota took weeks to get as far as VW has done in a few days.

Are these firings scapegoat moves? If so they may not be the real culprits. To change the culture one has to really dig in and find out who, what, where and when. That takes time to understand. If these guys were standing in the way of that process, or they admitted they allowed it then they should go. But if the Board is moving just for the sake of showing movement to appease critics, then the root cause may never be found. Then some day in the future it is likely happen again.

If your billion dollar company lost almost 50% of its market value in less than a week and you were looking at fines and lawsuits on the level of a natural disaster, all because of a management call on a means to circumvent emissions regulations, what would you do?

@Vette71 Exactly! The heads will roll mentality is good for PR but may be detrimental to solving the problem. Execs like Winterkorn--I truly believe--have no clue about issues like this. Lower-level engineers make these decisions--often to appease the mandates of those above. So we roll heads of the higher ups and the lower downs that committed the act percolate upward in the system.

WOW!! OFF THE WALL!! There are legal government standards about auto emissions that were first enacted in the 1960's and later added to. So you have proof that GM violated these standards? Please turn it over to the EPA immediately.
