EPA Promises No Mercy If Automakers Fudge On Emission Testing

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is putting automakers on notice.

In the wake of Volkwagen’s admission of evasive software on 11 million diesel powered cars worldwide, the EPA told car companies Friday that it is stepping up emissions scrutiny of all passenger vehicles on the road.

That includes gasoline powered automobiles as well as the diesel-powered cars on which VW came up with a “defeat device,” allowing the vehicles to spew more dirt than allowed by law.

The action came as VW’s board met to name a successor to Martin Winterkorn, who resigned as chief executive earlier this week. Media reports said Matthias Muller, the head of Porsche , was likely to get the job. Other executives could resign and be replaced.

You don't mention that it was George Bush who first gave GM and Chrysler Bailout money - yes - it was Obama that extended it - but the Bailouts were because of the actions (Or lack of them) of a free spending deficit producing republican president - whose de-regulation of the financial industry almost put the country into a depression. Thankfully - Bush was not president forever either!!

So in addition to having customers and VW car dealers that are angry with them, they now have every other car company pissed off at them too because of the extra costs and scrutiny that is coming out of this. Ouch.
