Elon Musk Spouts Off: If I Was Taking Over VW, I’d Go The Other Way

Tesla boss Elon Musk has told Auto Express that VW should commit to a greener future to make up for its emissions crisis. Speaking at the opening of Tesla’s first factory outside of the US in Tilburg, Netherlands, Musk said: “If I was taking over VW, I’d go the other way and aim to be a leader [in clean vehicles].

“Maybe the path to redemption is towards clean vehicles.”

Musk also said that car companies should go electric, or die. “All car companies will go electric eventually,” he said. “Any car company that doesn’t go electric will be out of business.”

govt and SEC should be looking at Musk/Tesla funny accounting. His company accounting to many don't add up. Watch out Musk...you could be next!

No, the comment is an actuality.

Then again, Elon Musk says a lot of things. For example, when a reviewer didn't give a Tesla car a glowing review, Musk alleged that they wrote up the review before the car even arrived at their door. A few weeks later, another unrelated reviewer didn't give Tesla a rave review and Musk reused the same "you wrote the review before the car arrived" allegation, in an attempt to discredit the reviewer.

I take Mr. Musk's comments with a mountain of salt.

He's a smug egomaniac who probably won't be around in 5yrs. I know something else that is 0 emissions as well, a car company that no longer exists.

Ineresting. Musk also said that car companies should go electric, or die. “All car companies will go electric eventually,” he said.

all car companies that lose money on every vehicle sold also die as well. You can only borrow so much before the banks say no or new stock market morons run out.

Of course, this is from someone who thinks his money losing company is worth more than Apple. Heck, Tesla stock dropped 4% when Apple announced their car might come out in 2019. What happens when the real one shows up?

"If I was taking over VW, I’d go the other way and aim to be a leader [in clean vehicles]. Maybe the path to redemption is towards clean vehicles.”

Oh, you mean actually building the cars they were lying and saying they were building for the last six years? Do you remember the countless articles and gushing about Audi's CLEAN TDI VEHICLES!!!!! (In caps because their CLEAN TDI's were rolling billboards, plastered from road to roof with GIANT LETTERING)

They might avoid some remediation and penalties by delivering future cleaner vehicles to offset the 11 million polluters. Just a good business tactic.

Time to move out of the 1950s Bob:
Coal = 39%
Natural gas = 27%
Nuclear = 19%
Hydropower = 6%
Other renewables = 7%
Biomass = 1.7%
Geothermal = 0.4%
Solar = 0.4%
Wind = 4.4%
Petroleum = 1%
Other gases < 1%

Coal use peaked in ~2002 and has been steadily declining since.

And the cost of electricity has skyrocketed. A couple of years ago Ohio residents were at 8.5 cents per kwh. locally we were at 13 cents. With aggressive government mandated switch we are now at 21 cents per kwh. Germany is the most agressive and it is at 50+ cents per kwh.

BobM, what an uneducated idiot. First it's 50%, then it's 76%? You are flip flopping faster then a Republican candidate. No surprise since you are a mindless political tool repeating the party line - - - time to grow a brain cell and think.

The funniest thing is your source is the coal industry organization, who will continue to espouse coal as the future. Just like the cigarettes industry figured out years ago, all you have to do is continually tell people that "cigarettes don't cause health related illness" and many mindless unthinking idiots like you will believe it is true.

Here is the real current data,"over 40% of worldwide electricity is produced from coal."

No worry Elon, you won't have the chance to take over a real auto company that is not hanging on the federal tit for its existance like you and Tesla do.

New factoid. 60% of the electric car tax credits have gone to the very wealthy. Same goes for solar and other green government programs. Elon is getting a lot of government aid.
