Is EVERYTHING A Huge Lie? Analysts Concerned Volkswagen Is Hiding MASSIVE Debt
Last week, Volkswagen was well on its way to displacing Toyota as the biggest and most successful auto maker in the world. Now with the revelation over the weekend of its actions to use a software device to defeat environmental regulations on some 11 million cars, Volkswagen has not only had to make a $7.3 billion provision against earnings to cover the costs of fixing the vehicles. It is facing financial consequences that may be far worse. Some analysts argue that Volkswagen’s very survival is in peril, as a result of massive undisclosed technical, regulatory and brand debt that never appeared on Volkswagen’s balance sheet.

This is a perfect time for FCA to acquire VWAG and do a reorganization:

Chrysler (USA)/Skoda (Europe) = mainstream value
Fiat = A and B segment value
VW = German Mercury / supplants Audi the current German Mercury
Alfa Romeo = entry-level near-premium RWD
Maserati = premium RWD
Porsche = Premium sportscars
Lamborghini = ultra-premium sportscars
Bentley = untra-premium sedans
Jeep = near-premium/premium crossovers/SUVs
Ram = pickups and trucks

Dead:
Seat
Lancia
Dodge
Audi

Ah, Marchionne finally gets brought into the picture. You know he's thinking about it. Composing that email now that he knows who the new CEO is. Trouble is VW is owned by the Piech and Porsche families (50%) and the state government (20%
and 30% public, while FCA has an Italian family as a large owner. The Piech and Porsche factions just came through a huge fight between them and adding in other factions would never work

Let's all take a moment to connect the dots here...basically VW/Audi was cheating on the emissions test to juice sales, juice marketing (in 16" tall characters..."TDI CLEAN DIESEL"), plus probably gain some favorable CAFE fuel economy statistics, that would in turn completely subsidize its very likely MONEY LOSING - Bentley, Lambo, and Bugatti lineups.

Want a prediction - the biggest causality of this whole lying, cheating, folly will be the starvation of the Bentley, Lambo, and Bugatti brands. VW pretended they were a key "cog" in their gears - but I suspect the reality is that they were an unsustainable vanity project.

Last prediction - all roads in this scandal will lead back to now retired Ferdinand Piech - the egotistical family member (VW's own Elon Musk) who placed great importance on the vanity brands.

Piech got canned as Chairman due to his attempt to get Winterkorn out. Winterkorn wanted to be Chairman, but last month the Board instead puts Winterkorn;s CFO in the Chair. Promoted him over his boss. Winterkorn has to quit in this mess and most of the guys they let go are Winterkorn.s guys. Piech now has his guy in CEO job. Ergo Piech still has power. Piech was the driver behind the Phaeton. Winterkorn couldn't produce the profits from the mass marke stuff to afford the luxury line that Piech wanted. It's going to be a rocky road.

VW might have been able to get to the lead in global sales with help from China, but with the current slow down in China this was looking unlikely. VW though was not even close to the profit of Toyota, so I would hardly say they were ever close to displacing Toyota as "most successful". Now they have been exposed as a cheat, there is no limit to how much they can fall.
