Audi Confirms 2.1 Million Vehicles Across 8 Models Affected By Scandal
Audi said 2.1 million of its diesel-powered cars, including best-sellers such as the A4 sedan and Q5 sport utility vehicle, are equipped with software implicated in an emissions-testing scandal that has engulfed parent company Volkswagen Group.

"We are working at full speed to find a technical solution," said Audi spokesman Juergen de Graeve. "Once we have that solution, we will write to customers and we will upgrade the cars so that they are within emissions regulations.

About 1.42 million Audi vehicles with Euro 5 diesel engines are affected in Western Europe, with 577,000 in Germany and almost 13,000 in the U.S., Audi said.

The Audi models that need to be upgraded include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6 sedans, the TT roadster and the Q3 and Q5 SUVs with 1.6-liter and 2-liter diesel engines.

IF and only IF, Mercedes and BMW did not cheat on this, I foresee a brilliant outcome for them...but I am almost 100% sure that most of the people selling Diesels are cheating in some big or small scale.....

It's possible that BMW and Mercedes are meeting the emissions tests without defeat technology, AND emitting 20x more emissions than legal levels in real-world tests.

We'll see as more information comes to light.

I think the basic issue here is that VW alone cut corners and did not install an Urea system (i.e. 'ad-blue') - to juice their small car profit margins. Everybody else (MB, BMW, Jeep, etc) use urea - and thus they all comply.

At this point there is nothing that indicates that a small GM diesel, Presumably the one in the Cruze , fails to meet US standards. IT sells in comparatively small quantities - and uses the Urea additive system to control NOx emissions - so it is likely it actually passes US emissions. I see no reason to bring Obama into this - I doubt any manufacturer that actually has this software problem will be able to avoid big fines - the Media coverage would prevent it. Especially in Germany - where it makes little difference what our President says to begin with.

Because while Bush gave them a bridge loan to get them through the short term, he wanted Obama to have a free hand in deciding what to do with them in the long term. BO eased them through a planned bankruptcy cutting corners over what a regular bankruptcy would have done. Screw the bond holders in favor of the UAW.

2nd no one died
3rd CARB sucks anyway
4th everyone designs cars to pass test. From crash test to emissions.
5th it's all about the money governments want their fines and lawyers smell blood

@BobM $100 in Urea is minimal in cost compared to the big $$ in fuel savings when you drive a diesel. You'll burn approx 100 gallons less of fuel over those same 10000 mile. You're turn to do the math....
