No Longer A Benchmark: Volkswagen Stock To Be Delisted From Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Volkswagen AG’s stock will be removed from the Dow Jones Sustainability indexes after the automaker cheated on emissions tests.

The carmaker’s admission on Sept. 18 that it systematically manipulated U.S. emissions tests prompted a review of its status, S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC and RobecoSAM said in a statement Tuesday. The stock will be pulled after the close of trading Oct. 5 from the DJSI World, DJSI Europe and all other related indexes, according to the statement.

I predict this will have catastrophic outcomes for VW. I blame the narcissist Piech for the corporate culture that celebrated cheating. I cannot wait for the Chinese government to get in on this.

I think all this uproar is exactly what Volkswagen needs to ensure something like this doesn't happen again. Between the enormous fines and lengthy litigation the company is facing, the resignation of the CEO, the de-listing from the Dow Sustainability Index, the stripping of awards etc. will teach Volkswagen a very important lesson.
