If Mazdas's New RX-9 Looks Like This,Would You Clear Out A Spot In The Garage For One?
It’s been an on-again, off-again rumor for a few years now and, quite frankly, we were getting a bit tired of wondering whether or not there was any truth to it: Will Mazda do a rotary-powered successor to the RX-8? After many denials, counter denials, and plenty of bullshit in between, Mazda has just announced that it’ll debut a new sports car concept at the Tokyo Motor Show next month. Only a single teaser image has been released but, hey, at least it’s proof.

That's what Mazda is missing a good sports car, and a Mazdaspeed3 or 6 would help too.

I don't care for that look at all, and the rotary engine hasn't made its case for me, so "double no."

The second picture in the article appears to be the most recently-released image. Not bad. Very Jaguar-like. I'm just fearful that Mazda won't give this car the engine/power that it needs to be a true player. If they don't they cannot price it more than the FRS/BRZ. If they do, then it can take on the 370Z and TT.

But that is just a design example that will never see the light of day.
You know it and we know it.

Mazda needs a "Mustang" (i.e. a coupe with turbo 4, V6, and turbo V6 forms) in the Mustang/Camaro price band. That is a BIG market. The RX7 is probably played out. Going in an entirely new direction with a product that targets a big market would make sense.

The platform could VERY EASILY be a version of the one developed by Toyota and BMW for the new Supra.

oil consuming rotary sounds foolish in this day and age, and all designs in the article are ho-hum, so no
