DRIVEN + VIDEO: FIRST Review Of The All-New Tesla Model X — Are You IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?

DRIVEN + VIDEO: FIRST Review Of The All-New Tesla Model X — Are You IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?
The Tesla (TSLA) Model X debuted last night to much fan fare and a lot of excited eyeballs. If you're familiar with the now aging Model S, it seems like it pretty much delivered on all points.

It's stupid fast, it's laden with great technology and it even boasts some firsts — namely it's the first all-electric production sport-utility vehicle.

Although it seems like the company is really marketing this as a smart family buy with the X's biohazard mode, as well as emphasis on safety, we're thinking this is going to be the "must have" auto of 2016. Not only are people fascinated with the massive center screen but now with the Falcon Doors we're thinking people are going to love rolling up to their posh destination and putting on a show.

Having said that, I wanted you all to check out the very first impressions from The Verge.

Another thing I have to point out: check out that windshield that extends into the roof. That thing is HUGE. Or, in the words of Donald Trump "uuUUuuGE!"

We had an early chance to drive the Model X, Tesla’s first new car in years. Come take a ride with us.

Cool ride, not for me, but cool nonetheless.

The issues I see are

(a) Exterior is too plain for a $100,000 vehicle;

(b) Like the Bentley Bentayga (on the opposite extreme), the interior is too highly stylized for the target family market - its like one of those glass houses/condos that looks nice but is tough to live with on a day to day basis. Traditional (i.e. a bench) second row seats would have probably been more widely embraced.

(c) The falcon doors are quite quirky - hope they don't fail and don't leak; and

(d) I hope they dealt with the motion sickness issue that some (many?) people experience in the rear seat of the Tesla Model S (which might explain all the glass in the X). I'm not prone to motion sickness but every time I ride in the back seat of an "S" I feel nauseous after about 10 minutes - I can't imagine taking an S or an X on a long trip (especially sitting in the 3rd row. Wonder if Tesla supplies barf bags?

To sum up - the X is plain on the outside and looks about as comfortable as the Disney Orlando monorail on the inside and (as compared to the S)it might make five people car-sick, instead of only 3 in the S.

Once initial buzz wears off, I'll be curious to see how popular it is.

Interesting to hear.

Motion sickness? I guess the silent movement bothers you? What else could it be?

The gull wing doors are the pinnacle of stupid.

Same thing they said about the automatic transmission, power windows, power seats, air conditioning, replacing your horse with a motor... What's the opposite of visionary? You.

Try opening them in a parking garage. What's the opposite of intelligent? You.

@MDarringer

They have sensors to detect close objects so they shouldn't be problematic. In addition, if you see the pics from the reveal — we have them in the original press release post — you'll see how they can open in a tight parking situation to allow for egress/ingress.

Watching a video of the 'Falcon' wing doors - they look like they're going to be breaking constantly.

Not good for a company who's soonest service appointment to fix a stuck door handle is three months in advance!

When it happened to Consumer Reports they dispatched a tech I believe within 24 hours.

Have you heard of others waiting longer? Please tell, if so.

What happens when Buffy and Biff grab the kids and decide to go to Whole Foods and it starts pouring down rain? Will the 'Falcon' wing doors allow all that rain water to flow inside the car?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only non-visionary here.

I'd wager to say they addressed the flow of water in the design, however, you never know.

In due time we'll know, boys and girls.

agent ... Here in Chicago where we have underground parking in tight spaces, the Falcon doors will create more of an issue. As it looks like they raise about 2 feet above the car. Thus meaning they will scrape the ceiling of most parking spaces. It is a cool concept for parking outside in close quarters, yet with inclement weather and low ceiling parking it could be a major drawback.

Boys and Girls? You're such an elitist, though I'm quite sure I'm quite a bit older than you are.

Note to Tesla's press department - you might want to contact the 80's 'hair band' Mister-Mister and lock up the rights to the lyrics for their hit song "Broken Wings" for use in a commercial...

Take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
Take these broken wings

Baby, I think tonight
We can take what was wrong and make it right
Baby, it's all I know that you're half of the flesh
And blood that makes me whole, I need you so.

So take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up
And let us in
Yeah, yeah
