Audi's September 2015 Global Sales Rise 6.8% But Was Outsold By Mercedes-Benz For The Month and Remains in 3rd Place
AUDI AG continued to grow in September: With around 170,900 cars, the company increased its deliveries worldwide by 6.8 percent. Sales in the Americas rose by 11.9 percent, while the brand’s business in Europe increased by 8.8 percent. Thanks also to the strong start of the new Audi Q7, the four rings saw its best ever September sales in company history in Europe with almost 80,000 units. Since the start of the year, the global sales of the Ingolstadt based company have increased by 3.8 percent across all models to around 1,347,950 units.

In light of the difficult market situation in important regions, we view our sales performance in the third quarter positively. Our growth in Europe demonstrates that new models are generating additional volume,” says Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. In September alone, Audi managed to increase combined deliveries of the new Audi Q7 and the new Audi TT by around 4,900 units compared with the same month last year. By the middle of next year, the company intends to launch another 15 new or updated models in the global markets. “That will further boost our sales.”

Despite the year-to-year growth, it seems that Audi is heading in the wrong direction, specifically as compared to BMW and Mercedes. Personally, I don't see the new A4 making a significant impact on that since it likely will mean that sales will either stay with the cheaper yet similarly sized (interior) A3, or will shift from the A3 to the A4, with only a nominal increase in overall sales.

It will be interesting to see if/how the VW mess impacts Audi's reputation and customer loyalty...A3 TDI aside. I suspect it is going to hurt Audi. The general public may not really know that Audi is a subsidiary of VW but car enthusiasts/influencers know and potential Audi buyers know.

Yeah, at this point all Audi and BMW can do is pray that this model cycle goes by fast because Mercedes has locked it in for the complete lineup for the next few years, and judging by their rivals recent launches like the Q7, A4, and 7 Series, i'd say Benz caught them completely off guard.
