Analyst Feels Tesla Needs A New Business Model - What Would You Change?

The high sticker price of Tesla’s long-awaited SUV drew criticism this week and even prompted Wall Street’s biggest bull to take a tiny step back in his enthusiasm for the carmaker’s stock.

Morgan Stanley’s Adam Jonas lowered his price target on Tesla from $465 to $450 this week, based on the Model X’s high sticker price of $120,000 to $130,000 negatively impacting his 2016 to 2018 unit sales projections. The cut comes not even two months after he ratcheted up his target from $280 to $465 on August 17 and made the stock a Top Pick, and the reduction is cosmetic at best.

Is Chuck feels that the 3% reduction in Adam's price target is so negligible, and he questions Adam's methods, then why bother writing an entire article about it?

What would I do? It'd depend less on government subsidies, incentives, tax-breaks etc. to stay profitable.

Mind you, Mr. Musk is a multi-millionaire and I'm not, so he's proven he's better at getting rich than I am.

How exactly is it working? A product for 1%ers on the backs of taxpayers isnt a great long term strategy. Sheet metal already outdated... Still way overpriced. Financials under scrutiny. We have different views of what "working" means.

Maybe it is because I live in Orange County and there are an awful lot of Teslas on the road...but the car is looking dated. They need a re-fresh or the fickle So Cal crowd will move on to the next best thing. Unfortunately it will be a Bentayga.

I think the launch of the eccentric Model X SUV has people widely questioning the long-term viability of Tesla in volumes sufficient to generate consistent profits.

They are nice vehicles, I respect the technology, they are not for me, but they are a good product for the small niche of customers whose needs they meet.

That being said, you heard it hear first, Tesla's death spiral starts NOW!
