UK Bans Smoking In Cars With Children - Why Is It Still Legal Here?

New laws to ban smoking in cars with children passengers have come into force in England and Wales. The new rules apply to any driver or passenger in any “enclosed vehicle” when a child under the age of 18 is on board. It is also an offence for a driver, including a provisional driver, not to stop one of their passengers smoking in a private vehicle if there’s a minor present.

Anybody caught breaking the law is subject to a £50 fine in theory but police chiefs and Government officials have admitted that they won’t issue fines to drivers or passengers caught under the new in-car smoking laws for at least three months.

In these United STATES we do things state by state and not via a central government. The following have enacted vehicle smoking laws; Arkansas, California,Louisiana, Maine, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Utah and Vermont. For those of you wishing for a central government like the UK that can make laws like this be careful what you wish for. In the UK with its central government health program breast cancer deaths are much higher than the USA because the central government won't pay for the newer expensive drug treatments. Over 73 and need a pacemaker. No dice. You are too old. Remember when the BBC was the only TV channel and radio station?

-Why does Monsanto and other GMOs reign supreme here while being banned in other countries?
-Why do we have the highest number of gun deaths per capita than any at-peace nation?
-Why do we incarcerate more people per capita than any other nation?
-Why do we have more lawyers per capita than any other nation?
-Why are we always at war, or invading other countries without a UN Resolution or even a declaration of war? (except for those 4 exceptional years when Jimmy Carter was the prez, when not a single shot was fired)
-Why did we have Enron, and Lehman Brothers, and...

It's all about FREEDOM! Or at least, that's the way the story goes.

Capitalism and Constitutional Freedom are not perfect - and for every pro - there are cons. Capitalism inherently favors the rich - and money buys living things as well as others. And the freedom we have - requires us to accept that those rich people ALSO have the freedoms too. There is no acceptable alternative so far. Communism has never been successfully introduced - the "communist" countries of the cold war were never truly communist - they had a class system that was nothing like it. But real communism has a fatal flaw - lack of incentive to do more than the next guy - since if you share everything equally - you get no benefit by working harder.

WE have more Lawyers because we have more laws than other countries - and more people are incarcerated because they live to go to court. And finally - guns don't kill people - people with guns kill people. THe authors of the constitution never imagined that someday - someone COULD make a case that they have the right to their own personal Atomic weapon. And as long as the Court stays conservative - they will continue to interpret the word "bear" in a way that Sister Charity would have hit you for.
