Video Review: Mazda MX-5 Vs Toyota GT86: Which Is The Better Entry Level Sports Car?

The Mazda MX-5 and the Toyota GT86 have been put one against another in a new review.

Hearing about the Mazda MX-5 and the Toyota GT86 in a video may have you believe that this is nothing more than a simple drag race, but you are wrong because this particular clip has been signed by AutoExpress and it is showing Steve Sutcliffe behind the wheel of both budget sports cars, trying to figure it out which one is better. If you ignore the fact that comparing these two models has become almost a trend in the UK, you may end up enjoying this video.

Another driver may beat his time. I say they are even. The Toyota will hold up longer and have better resale value. WINNER TOYOTA!!!!

Tough choice....really tough.....still deciding. Its like a choice between 2 very sexy Victoria Secret models. Well lucky these two models are very affordable.. I'll take both!

For the same price you can have a Mustang V6 that will eat them alive at the track.

For someone who claims to sell cars you are a complete idiot. Who else would believe the target market for these two cars are track days.

I do NOT sell cars. I am a part owner in several dealers. Huge difference. As for your dismissible foolishness...Where were they tested, dimwit (aka Terry989)? Pay attention to context. But even if the track is not the context, the Mustang V6 will be--by far better to live with--and will deliver more smiles per mile.

Sorry Matty, you're brain dead from the chemical imbalance passed on to your from your drug addicted mother. The track was your context, but it appears your ADD/ADHD has kicked in since you can't even remember what you typed one line up. I doubt very much that you are a co-owner given all of your previous comments. You are a used car salesman and nothing else, just a monkey with a keyboard. I would take either the FRS or the Mazda over the Mustang any day for smiles per miles with better reliability and resale values.

I still think it was a huge mistake for Toyota not to do a cabrio version of the FRS.

Mazda hands down. At least there's a soul in their cars.

All this is good entertainment. The Mustang is beautiful but not in the same market. Those that like Miatas and GT86 like them because they are light and nimble. Those that like pony cars don't care about the weight (apparently) Apples and oranges. I would like to drive the new Mustang though. The comment that Toyota should have built a cabrio. I'm on the other side of that fence. I'd consider the Miata if they offered a hard top. I own a BRZ currently. I like the car for the most part. Quality is ok. Not sure it's head and shoulders ahead of Mazda in that department. Remember these things are built by Subaru, not Toyota. I'd ike to see them swap tires on the two cars and see what the lap times are. Could the Miata still win the test with the hard as a brick prius tires that come on the GT86? I doubt it. I suspect 1/2 a second the other way. Not a big deal either way. These cars aren't designed to be the fastest things on a race track. Plenty of fun on the street. I can get two sets of clubs in the BRZ. Try that in a Miata.
