Is There A Case To Be Made For A 128HP Bare Bones Sports Car In The Land Of The Hellcat?

Technical specifications for Toyota's S-FR sports car concept have been leaked ahead of the car's debut at the Tokyo motor show later this month.

The specifications, which were posted on an online forum, quote Japanese figures and suggest the S-FR will be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 128bhp and 109lb ft of torque. The engine will be coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, with no automatic option available. The car should be capable of returning up to 55mpg (46 mpg US), and weighs just 980kg.

By comparison, the entry-level Mazda MX-5 is powered by a 129bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine, allowing it to reach 62mph in 8.3 seconds, with a top speed of 127mph.

MPG and fun to drive, would do well if it could be offered at $20k and had leg room for say a six footer.

Hell yes...if it is small and light... Power is only good if you can control it. Most idiots that buy a hellcat are the slowest drivers...to scared to fully exploit the pussycat.

I really don't understand this stuff anymore. Why are manuals only available for cars that are underpowered? This isn't 1970 anymore. People no longer buy manuals to save money. They buy manuals because they love to drive and although I don't need 500hp, it's not fun to drive a sports car that gets blown off the line by minivans and priuses.
