Lexus Gets Serious And Prices 2016 GS F At Only $85,380 - But Is It Already Outclassed Out Of The Box?

The speed-hunting, performance F version of Lexus’ midsize GS sport sedan -- a first for the model -- will start at $85,380, including shipping, Toyota’s luxury arm said Tuesday.

The 2016 GS F is the fourth model from Lexus’ F performance division. The IS F sedan kicked things off in 2008, and it was followed by the LFA supercar in 2012 and the RC F coupe in 2015.

The GS F uses a powertrain that’s nearly identical to that of the RC F coupe. A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 engine makes 467 hp and 389 pounds-feet of torque. Real-wheel drive is mandatory, as is a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Gotta hand it to Lexus designers—they always, always find a way to screw up what could have been a decent car design. WHAT'S WITH THE STUPID LOOKING CHECK MARK DRLs UNDER THE HEADLIGHTS? Geez! Enough already! Oh yeah, and the Hofmeister Kink belongs on BMWs, not on poser cars like Lexus.

GOTTA HAND IT to Lexus and Toyota for understanding the market and the needs of the consumer while at the same time turning killer profits, AND being uber reliable. There is a reason why they are number one. No need for 600hp TT or (cough) diesels.

Lexus..you should price well over $150,000...

With the exception of Benz!

BMW Audi all build POS and charge a ton of money for unreliable POS! most of their buyers (leassee) would not keep that garbage beyond the lease anyways. There are more lease bmw and audi on dealer lots than any other brand. NO ONE WANTS A MONEY PIT AFTER THE LEASE AND MAINTAINCE PROGAM IS OVER$!

Article: "...Choosing a direct competitor for the GS F is tough. Lexus is adamant that it didn’t benchmark any of the usual suspects in the sport sedan category (BMW’s M5, Mercedes-Benz’ E63 AMG, etc.) and instead forged its own path by building a driver’s car that anyone -- regardless of skill level -- could enjoy driving on a daily basis."

There ya go regarding the subject about it being outclassed (usual AutoSpies inflammatory subject, and clickbait).

Personally, Lexus's awkward and unappealing (to me) styling looks like they're relegated more and more to the Infiniti league of wanna bes. However, Lexus unit sales paint a picture of customers who are buying their products. They obviously have a strong market. I'm just not part of it, so I'm not a good spokesperson for them.

Sorry, but I agree with the headline. The CTS-V blows the doors of this GS-F off at the same price. And the S6 and S7 do the same at lower price points.

Regarding Lexus' sales, they actually don't have a strong market where they are trying to impose. Sales of their higher-end products are NOTHING compared to the Germans, specifically the GS and LS. This GS-F will not change that. Buyers are clearly willing to sign up for a $400/month lease, but not much more when it comes to Lexus.

Yes, Lexus was smart not to price this with the M5 or E63. But to price it above the CTS-V is insane. Not to mention the S6 which starts over $10k less. I'd EASILY get an S7 for a few thousand less to start.

There seems to be a disconnect at Lexus when it comes to defining "high performance". At least the RC-F has styling that helps insecure people feel special, but this GS-F is nothing great to look at.

They will only import about 2500 so it's not high volume. They will sell everyone to someone who wants a well build high performance sedan without the 100k plus price tag. The Cadillac is a POS with a vette engine. No quality.....

And Lexus is a radioactive brand which should be called the Fukushima luxury car brand.

If you are happy with a radioactive car, then good. I'd gladly take my Cadillac with a Vette engine which is actually better than anything Lexus-Radiation ever produces.

LEXUS performance division's motto should be "Good but not good enough". They have the resources and capability but they always do a half-ass job. Not so sure they will sell everyone of them since the RC-F has barely had any sales volume. Lots of 2015 still sitting on lots, they will probably do some fire sale like they did during Summer and that would be great for us.

Does Lexus seriously think their radioactive cars that were made in the land of radiation called Japan are worth $85,380?

"130 ‘radioactive’ Japanese cars banned from entering Russia

The Fukushima nuclear plant was hit by an earthquake and a tsunami in March 2011, which resulted in the world’s biggest nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Leakage of radiation-contaminated water has been the major threat to population and environment of Japan and neighboring states from the very beginning of the crisis at the facility, situated just 250 kilometers from Japan’s capital city, Tokyo.

However, the plant’s operator, TEPCO, did not acknowledge that contaminated water was escaping from the Fukushima plant into the ocean, and that it was unable to stop the leaks, until July 2013"

A total of 70 used cars imported from Japan and found to have increased levels of radiation are being stored in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and cannot be sent back, according to Silk Road Reporters citing local news outlets. Car retailers in Kyrgyzstan, who have been importing significant numbers of used cars from Japan for resale in the country, have been finding cars that exhibit levels of radiation above normal. Several batches of cars have been seized by the government during the last three years and have at times been sent back to Japan through an agreement with the Japanese government. However, irradiated cars keep turning up in Bishkek, the capital, and not all of them are being detected in a timely manner.

"These cars cannot be dispatched back. Neither China nor Japan will accept them. For this reason, we have to keep them here and deal with their further disposal," Tolo Isakov, director of the Disease Prevention Department in Bishkek, told the AKIpress news outlet, according to Silk Road Reporters.

"Fukushima Not Even Close To Being Under Control

Fukushima’s still radiating, self-perpetuating, immeasurable, and limitless, like a horrible incorrigible Doctor Who monster encounter in deep space.

Fukushima will likely go down in history as the biggest cover-up of the 21st Century. Governments and corporations are not leveling with citizens about the risks and dangers; similarly, truth itself, as an ethical standard, is at risk of going to shambles as the glue that holds together the trust and belief in society’s institutions. Ultimately, this is an example of how societies fail."

blah blah blah... love my radioactive Prius from Japan. MOST RELIABLE VEHICLE EVER... I THINK THE RADIATION LEAK HELPS IT GET ATLEAST 5 MPG MORE.

I'D RATHER HAVE TOYOTA BUILD ALL THEIR VEHICLES IN JAPAN...BUT UNFORTUNATELY...THEY BUILD MOST OF THEIR CARS IN THE AMERICAS NOW. NOT AS RELIABLE AS IF BUILT IN JAPAN!

James, are you serious? You actually prefer radioactive cars?

Do not be duped by the Japanese propaganda. You should worry about your health and all, James!

I know your mention of radioactivity can't be serious. You must know how easy it is to detect even trace amounts of radioactivity.

Were those radioactive cars banned in Russia and elsewhere because radiation level in Japan is safe?

Tough sell at $85k, especially compared to the cts-v. That said, only 2000 per year may just be doable for Toyota.

The Toyota UZ V-8 engine has been unchanged since 2003. Heavy and boring auto.
