CAR WARS, Sibling Rivalry Edition! WHICH and WHY? BMW M2 vs. BMW M4
Here ye, Here ye! The latest BMW M car has come and we're finally able to show you the full banana. No longer shrouded in mystery, the BMW M2 has been fully unveiled.
Equipped with a forced induction six-cylinder good for 365 horsepower and 343 lb.-ft. of torque — sound familiar? — power shouldn't be too much of a problem here. In addition, buyers of the 2016 M2 will have the choice between a six-speed manual transmission as well as a dual-clutch 'box.
But, there's just one thing: Is it us or is the M4 coupe living in its little brother's shadow?

While I know there are a lot of power junkies out there, and the latest-gen M4 is no slouch, it seems like there's just something special missing about the driving experience when compared to previous-gen BMWs. Obviously I haven't driven the M2 yet but if the 2011 1M is any indication of how the M2 should drive, there's a good chance it will be more communicative, more raw and more fun than its big brother.
If there's one thing we've learned over time it's that history tends to repeat itself.
If there's one thing we've learned over time it's that history tends to repeat itself.
Having said that, I've got to ask:
WHICH BMW M car would YOU rather have? The all-new M2 or the currently existing M4?

Size matters...always go for the smaller lighter car which will be more fun on back country roads to the delight of most enthusiasts. The added advantage is that it has a smaller uninhabitable back seat that effectively eliminates back seat drivers like your mother-in-law.

M4 to live with. The 2 Series is CRAMPED.

I think your driving style leads to the decision - the 4 series is more of a GT car, which I prefer, while the M2 is a true sports car. I'm not in the market for the M4, based on price to some extent, but I do plan on driving the M2 when it's available. For me the choices are M235, M2 or 435 or next year's 440.

If the 2 Series were a fastback, I might consider it.

The M2 will no doubt be lighter and quicker on its feet. The M4 is a true sports car, not much different than a Corvette, really (and I drove them practically back to back). I'd choose the M4 because it's just a more "mature-looking" car. The 2 Series, and this M2, just look like the car that the rich dad will buy his 16-year-old kid when they first get their license.

Would be nice to see pictures staggered of the same view. An M2 profile pic an M4 profile pic, front view M2, front view M4 etc....

i think if its just based on looks alone, then you go with the m4. more options. carbon fiber roof, different interior colors , a true M motor. otherwise i have a 235xi and i love the size and how easy it is to drive.
i think it will also depend on price. if the m2 is like 700-750 per month lease and the m4 is 850 its a tough call.
the m2 is enough for most and I'm sure will be a great daily driver other than missing the x-drive for winters.

The interior just doesn't move the needle for me.
