OFFICIAL: The 2016 Lexus RX Gets PRICED! Is Its Pricing Aggressive Enough To Get YOUR Attention?

OFFICIAL: The 2016 Lexus RX Gets PRICED! Is Its Pricing Aggressive Enough To Get YOUR Attention?
This year at the 2015 New York Auto Show (NYIAS), Lexus unveiled its all-new 2016 RX sport-utility vehicle. For several generations, the RX has rocked luxury SUV buyers' worlds. For many it was the perfect mix of good pricing, reliability, luxury and a nice looking ride.

Now with a far more aggressive look that's more in line with the likes of the NX SUV, Lexus is definitely taking a walk on the wild side. But if you haven't noticed, the NX is selling like hot cakes. Although there's a vocal cry from people questioning its looks, buyers are lining up and Toyota is quite happy.

Whether or not it looks the part is merely a side note at this stage. We know a lot of people are going to want an RX. What actually matters, however, is how much it will cost. The latest news is telling us that Lexus has priced the all-new RX at $41,900*.

*This price does NOT include title, taxes or fees.

Clearly, the RX's pricing matches its aggressive styling.

If you want to add all-wheel drive to the RX, you'll be plopping down another $1,400 on top of that base price.

Having said all that, what do YOU think, Spies? Is the RX's aggressive pricing strategy going to net it some serious sales numbers?

Lexus quietly released its 2016 model year pricing on its full lineup this week, including the redesigned RX crossover and its first-ever trio of turbocharged cars.

The 2016 RX350 will start at $42,840, a $930 increase over the third-generation model. Adding all-wheel-drive to this V-6 RX will run another $1,400.

At the top of the RX line is the new 450h F-Sport iteration, which starts at $57,985. Based on the success of the F-Sport throughout its lineup, Lexus made the combination of its hybrid RX and F-Sport package available for the first time in 2016.

All prices include a $940 destination charge.

The moves could be key for Lexus in the cutthroat U.S. luxury segment.

The price makes sense, but I'm not sure the product does. The RX (like the ES) had specific strengths (vanilla everything) that appealed to a certain buyer that I feel the new RX may inadvertently alienate. Yes, the NX is selling well, but it still is being outsold by the Q5 and RDX, both comparably priced. Not to mention sales of the NX appear to be taking away from sales of the RX, whose totals are down 8% this year. Let's not forget that the Nissan Murano offers much what the RX will offer, at a lower price. If Nissan were smart, it'd be creating its advertising campaign right now.

Except the Murano is almost as ugly. I guess those who have zero taste will cross shop them.

New report links thyroid cancer rise to Fukushima nuclear crisis

The finding, based on screenings of around 370,000 Fukushima residents aged 18 or younger at the time of the accident, “is unlikely to be explained by a screening surge,” the researchers said, pointing to radiation exposure as a factor behind the rise in thyroid cancer cases.

A Tokyo doctor who has moved to western Japan urges fellow doctors to promote radiation protection: A message from Dr. Mita to his colleagues in Kodaira, Tokyo

"In Tokyo, the first mission of the disaster response concerns how to deal with earthquakes.

In the event of a South Eastern Earthquake, which is highly expectable, it is reasonable to assume a scenario of meltdown in the Hamaoka nuclear power plant in Shizuoka prefecture, followed by radiation contamination in Tokyo."

"It is clear that Eastern Japan and Metropolitan Tokyo have been contaminated with radiation."

"130 ‘radioactive’ Japanese cars banned from entering Russia

The Fukushima nuclear plant was hit by an earthquake and a tsunami in March 2011, which resulted in the world’s biggest nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Leakage of radiation-contaminated water has been the major threat to population and environment of Japan and neighboring states from the very beginning of the crisis at the facility, situated just 250 kilometers from Japan’s capital city, Tokyo.

However, the plant’s operator, TEPCO, did not acknowledge that contaminated water was escaping from the Fukushima plant into the ocean, and that it was unable to stop the leaks, until July 2013"

"The Japanese Government Hides the Truth: Fukushima Radiations are Killing Children, TEPCO Employees

Compared with Chernobyl, radiation levels around Fukushima “are four times higher,” he told RT’s Sophie Shevardnadze, adding that “it’s too early for people to come back to Fukushima prefecture.”

“It is by no means safe, no matter what the government says.”

Idogawa alleges that the government has started programs to return people to their towns despite the danger of radiation.

“Fukushima Prefecture has launched the Come Home campaign. In many cases, evacuees are forced to return. [the former mayor produced a map of Fukushima Prefecture that showed that air contamination decreased a little, but soil contamination remains the same.]“ "

"Once again, Idogawa alludes to the nuclear tragedy that hit Ukraine on April 26, 1986, pleading that the Japanese people “never forget Chernobyl.” Yet few people seem to be heeding the former government official’s warning.

“They believe what the government says, while in reality radiation is still there. This is killing children. They die of heart conditions, asthma, leukemia, thyroiditis… Lots of kids are extremely exhausted after school; others are simply unable to attend PE classes. But the authorities still hide the truth from us, and I don’t know why. Don’t they have children of their own? It hurts so much to know they can’t protect our children.

“They say Fukushima Prefecture is safe, and that’s why nobody’s working to evacuate children, move them elsewhere. We’re not even allowed to discuss this.” "

@GMCadillac

This has got to be the 100th post regarding Japan's nuclear problem. If you want to continue posting drivel please start your own website and discuss this issue there.

Otherwise, a ban is coming in your near future.

Good day.

I don't believe I deserve my ban, considering the fact that I am only trying to spread the word.

If somebody does not help out the others, then who will? Are you saying we should not help each other?

Are you serious GMCsddillac what a stupid post. Did you forget the BMW, Mercedes, VW just for instance used Jews as Slaves labor during the Second World War to advance there fortunes. Plus The USA supplied weapons to Iraq and Afghanistan which have killed millions and created Isis. If you want to get on your high horse just don't single out one event either because or a bigot, ignorant, a hater or just racist.

I can tell you are very ignorant, and most likely have lower IQ than a garbage can.

Radiation affects anyone, and this is currently a global issue.

And yet, here you are, you think people believe only Japan has problems and other countries are perfect. Do you ever use your brain? Was that my point to begin with?

It's actually pretty funny because, if I talk about radiation in Japan, that somehow "automatically" makes me a "racist". Clearly you have no idea how logic even works, typical highschool dropout.

Pricing has to be aggressive to convince someone to buy this ugly thing over better looking competitors in the market. Much rather have a Q5 or a nicely equipped Grand Cherokee at this price.

I don't think it is wise to pay over $42k just to buy a radioactive waste, not to mention you are buying a car that is from the country that is under a government of tyranny.

Truth hurts, doesn't it? Unfortunately, I am only here to tell people the truth. You on the other hand, are nothing more than a pawn of Japan. You must be proud.

And it's funny, even if you get banned, I highly doubt anyone would even miss you nor care about you by the way.

GMCaddi, you have crossed the line to beyond annoying. You imply anything that comes from Japan is radioactive. Get real. And yes, keep it up and you deserve a ban.

We have the evidence, we have something that is actually substantial, as practically many people who are in the know are aware of the radioactive situation in Japan.

And you are saying I am being annoying. Are you saying it is wrong to tell people the truth? When they deserve to know what they should know?

I don't agree that this is well priced. It was too high before and now it's more. You add any sort of options an $60k is getting really close. Get the hybrid, and it's tough to stay under $70. Personally, I don't care much for the new look, either. I'm probably the demographic they'd like in grab. Ain't happening...

I think the demogrpahic they are after are empty nesters or childless professionals. This vehicle will not doe for anyone with more than one child. With that said, I do think the styling will alienate some of that population, as it has gone too far and is not pleasing to the eyes.

Yep, I'm an empty nester, age 61, still working and a respectable income. My guess is they'd love to pull me into their fold, and I seriously looked at the RX hybrid about a year ago. About $10K less and I think they might have gotten me. Between the price and the current appearance, not much chance. I'll stick with diesel for the time being. Yes, even with the issues right now.

I want to see how the New RX compares and Looks next to the New Cadillac XT5 and compares in Final Pricing (List is meaningless) - THere was a time when Lexus could sell based on reasonably styled vehicles and their reliability - but the Cow Catcher Grill Styling is Hideous - and I believe it will make the new Cadillac look even better than it is.

GMCadillac - why don't you point out that even with the Debacle of the ignition switches - GM's rate of recalls on a per car sold basis is still lower than Toyota over the last 10 years? Noting that the majority of RX Vehicles sold in the USA are assembled in Canada - and that the Camry is assembled in the USA - your specific gripe does not apply to all their vehicles.

With the success the NX is having with this design the RX will continue and remain as the sales volumes leader in this segment. All the other players which I personally like a little better than the RX have priced themselves too high. Most of the completion starts at $50K and that is what will keep the RX at #1. For the first time, I actually find the RX's design manly, it has always been a wimpy/girlish looking SUV.

Define the competition. I feel the RX is in the middle of the competition. A little more than the Q5/X3s of the world, yet not up to the Q7/X5/GLEs.

@JeffGall

I think you're onto something. Because of its price and size it's really a middler. I think Lexus has done this purposefully to get the sales of folks who want a vehicle with good size but want to spend less than X5, Q7, GLE. In addition it sets the RX to capture sales from buyers who want something a bit bigger than the X3, GLC, Q5 on the cheap.

While the Cadillac SRX can be had for less than $40k, let's be serious who REALLY wants one of those? They still sell at a decent pace though...
